Introduction

Last night my wife and I went next door for dinner and some games. Very casual night. We brought the wines, them made the foods. The wines were pop and pour and consumed with dinner.

Nice. Such a killer bottle when this is on. Medium to deep gold in color. The nose is clean, no oxidation. Orange peel, sea air, crushed shells and minerals. On the palate, this is slightly sweet. Great texture. Wonderful balance. A barely bitter/burnt orange peel note along with great minerality and slight simple syrup. Deep and complex. Long finish. Each sip made me want another. Everything I hoped for when i bought this on release. Whew.

I was looking for something to take to the neighbors that would go with the food they were making (a vegetarian version of chicken with artichokes using seitan). I gave this a shot and I thought it worked pretty well. Low in alcohol 12.5%. Ruby/purple in color. The nose has cherries and rhubarb in it although not Pinot like. More deep and dark but still red fruit. Medium bodied. There is a nice complexity here. it works with the food, not elevating it, but staying in the background. Artichokes are a difficult food pairing, but this worked enough not to clash or get tinny. Finishing the bottle after dinner, this put on a bit of weight, but I will say, I appreciated the lower alcohol.

Pop and pour. Purple in color. The nose is deep with black raspberries, leather, slight bacon fat and bits of pepper. On the palate, this drinks more cooler climate. Black raspberries, some damp earthy notes. Enough acidity but not bright. Starting to layer. This took about an hour or more to really open fully. I think it is getting there but not yet at peak. No harm now, but holding a few more years makes sense.
