Introduction

I brought the Gigondas for the others to taste.
The other wines were poured blind.

Flight 1 (6 Notes)

  • 1996 Château L'Enclos

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

The wine has a brown rim. In the bouquet red berries, oak, earth, autumn forest, soy and some barnyard flavors. On the palate also a quite mature, but still lovely wine. A lot of stable impressions, but still very pleasurable with good acidity and some sweetness and fully melted tannin. No score.

  • 2008 Château de Sales 88 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

In the bouquet earth, cinnamon, autumn forest and red and black berries. Same on the palate, creamy fruits, good acidity and slightly sticky tannin. Overall a pleasant and creamy wine which will probably improve a bit over the next 3+ years.

  • 2006 Château Montrose 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe

In the bouquet creamy dark forest/berry fruits, licorice, caramel and autumn forest. The same on the palate, good acidity, firm acidity and bitterness. Still very youthful. A wine in its puberty stage. Around 2024+ probably much more refined.

  • 2011 Domaine Saint-Damien Gigondas Cuvée Clovis Saurel 93 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Gigondas

Beautiful wine with a lot of sweetness and garrigue. White pepper, good red fruits, soft acidity and round tannin. A wine which offers great pleasure.

  • 2008 Château Suduiraut 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

No formal notes, but this is a youthful and elegant Sauternes. Honey, apricots, beautifully fresh sweetness and acidity. Really beautiful wine.

  • 2008 Château Rieussec 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

Tasted beside 2008 Suduiraut this wine is much more concentrated and less elegant at the same time. Orange peel, apricots and honey. Very good quality, but not as refined as Suduiraut. I score both wines the same; each for their own merits.
