Flight 1 (1 Note)

  • 2011 Samuel Billaud Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

    Glass: Spiegelau Burgundy
Tasted blind. Clear, pale golden color. Clean, medium (-) intense, complex and developing nose: Gooseberry, mineral notes (chalk), lots of citrus (fruit and zests), some fine oak. Very multi-layered and nice.
Dry, medium acidity, body and alcohol. Nice flavors with medium intensity: Limestone, again citrus fruit and zests, gooseberry. Fruit is not dominant, moderate oak, lean and elegant. Medium finish again with lots of ripe citrus. Good pressure on the palate, good nerve. I guess the wine is near its peak and will stay there for 3-5+ years. 90-91

Flight 2 (1 Note)

  • 2014 Weingut Beurer Rettet die Reben

    Germany, Württemberg

Tasted blind. Clear, pale golden color with a slight red hue. Clean, medium+ intense nose, completely whacky! Never had this before. Lots of dextrose (Dextro energy pills), some artificial notes, a bit of an orange wine, urinal cookie, must.
Dry, medium acidity, body and alcohol (12,5% abv). On the palate this wine continues to be whacky: Medicinal notes, herbs, musty, ripe apple, spices and herbs. Very multi-layered, but also chaotic. What type of wine? We guessed some Ukrainian fungus resistant grape variety, matured in an amphora  What is it? A local wine from Württemberg, made of 20 very rare and strange grape varieties white and red that existed in Germany since the middle ages. Never heard of most of them… Anyone knows one of these?
Heunisch, Adelfränkisch, Kleinweiß, Roter Urban, Roter Veltliner, Frühroter Veltliner, Fütterer, Roter Gutedel, Putzscheere, Blauer Scheuchner, Affenthaler, Gelber Orleans, Portugieser, Räuschling, Blauer Hängling, Honigler, Blauer Kölner, Großkölner, Neuburger, Eicheltraube, Ahorntraube
Only 150 bottles made. This wine is, hmm, interesting. Does it make fun to drink? No. But from a “scientific” point of view very thrilling. Potential? I don’t know, guess it will stay at this level for 3-5+ years? Points? Hard to rate, so no points.

Flight 3 (1 Note)

  • 2011 Martin Müllen Trarbacher Hühnerberg Riesling Spätlese * trocken 91 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

Tasted blind. Clear, pale lemon-golden color. Clean, medium+ intense, youthful nose, easily to detect as a Mosel Riesling: Lots of mineral notes (slate), citrus fruit, ripe yellow stone fruit, white blossoms and herbs. Complex and very nice.
Dry, medium, vintage typical ripe and balanced acidity. Medium+ intense flavors of blossoms, chamomile, herbs, mineral notes, ripe fruit, woodruff. Medium+ - long and complex finish. Good tension, lots of extract. Needs time and air. I guess it is not even near its peak with potential of further development for at least 5-10+ years. Very good PQR. 90-92

Flight 4 (1 Note)

  • 2008 Georg Breuer Rüdesheimer Berg Schloßberg Riesling 93 Points

    Germany, Rheingau

Tasted blind. Clear, medium, glowing lemon-golden color. Very nice. Clean, medium intense and developing nose. Some maturity notes, ripe lemon (juice and zests), herbs, spices. Not closed, but very dense and compact. Needs time and air to open up.
Dry, medium+ and vibrant acidity. Medium+ intense flavors of herbs, salty citrus and lemon. Very elegant and lean. It takes time to open up, but then it shows lots of tension, complexity and reverberates on the palate on and on. Not even at it’s peak. Give it a few more years and lots of air. Very good Rheingau Riesling with great potential.

Flight 5 (1 Note)

  • 2011 Weingut Schnaitmann Simonroth Lemberger 91 Points

    Germany, Württemberg

Bottle opened 6 days ago. Clear, deep purple, ruby color. Clean, open, medium intense and developing nose with lots of herbs, red and blue fruit mixed with exotic spices, some vanilla and a tiny bit of fresh lovage (not like in aged wines).
Dry, with some extract sweetness. Astonishingly for the warm vintage medium (+), well integrated acidity. Round and velvet tannin. Medium+ alcohol (13,5%). On the palate herbs, spices and red and blue fruits. Medium+ and lingering finish, well balanced and with a good structure. Given the fact that it is so good after being opened for over 6 days I guess it will continue to develop for 5+ years. Very good PQR. 90-91

Flight 6 (1 Note)

  • 2005 Markus Molitor Zeltinger Himmelreich Riesling Auslese ** (Green Capsule) 93 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

Tasted blind. Clear, pale golden color. Clean, medium intense and quite youthful nose with herbs, ripe yellow stone fruit, mint and some honey. Chiseled and elegant. Needs time to open up.
Off-dry. We first guessed a declassified Spätlese (late harvest) or a light Auslese. We were close  It is really in between: feinherb…
Alcohol seems quite low despite its 12,5% abv. Complex flavors of ripe apple, apricot, yellow stone fruit, some mineral notes (rock flour), no signs of ageing. Very juicy. Lacks a bit of tension and pressure. After some time in the open bottle the wine reveals its complexity and beauty. It is not loud, but complex and makes real fun to drink. This bottle is a 2017 release straight of the vintners cellar. That explains its youthfulness. Has 10-20+ years of further development ahead. A really good wine now and potentially a great one in the distant future. 92-93
