Nice stuff. This smelt absolutely lovely - really feminine, with sweet fragrant spice, a dash of dark florals, violets maybe, then sweet black cherries and ripe berries. An absolutely feminine nose, really seductive. A little mossy, mushroomy note started coming out after an hour in the glass too. The palate was still on the tight side, but quite lovely, with an almost weightless elegance to its beautifully pure flavours of dark cherries and berries, garlanded with more of those lovely violet tones, all this underlined with a beautifully detailed acidity and fine tannins. With time, some meaty notes started coming out as well as the wine out on more weight and gruffness. It was only the touch of dried fruit at the very end that hinted at the hot vintage, otherwise this was really refined indeed.

Not bad. Intriguing nose here - dusty, spicy, blue fruited, with a toss of earth, something vaguely vegetal, and then a gust of smoky, toasty notes. Quite 2003, but very nice. The palate was full and ripe as would be expected, with blueberries and sticky black cherries; there was also a decent touch of balancing acidity and well-shaped of structure. Beyond that though, the grip of the vintages tannins along with a smoky roastedness set in towards the finish. All in all, pretty decent and it will get better in the next few years.

Delicious. This had a beautiful nose, very Liger-Belair in style, with sweet curls of blueberries and violets and fragrant spice patted down with a bit of earth. The palate was nice and round, with a juicy fleshiness and sap that belies the vintage. Here, flavours of blueberries and darker cherries blended nicely with a little twist of bramble and spice - really yummy. At the finish, a nice burst of juicy citrus lifted the wine nicely. Yum.

Solid. This had such an arresting nose - deep, rich, sappy smells of cooked cherries, sweet florals, warm spice and gentle brambly herbs. Beautiful, but noticeably Prieur-Roch. The palate was ripe and rich and powerful, showing several notches up from where you would expect, with lovely full flavours of dark cherries and berries, and more of that enchanting full-cluster character of bramble and herb gently pulling away into a full, long finish. Juicy and delicious, this punched way above its weight.

Enjoyable. Like many of the wines tonight, this had a very alluring nose - dark cherries, spice, earth. Very masculine, but really attractive. The palate was a touch rustic as would be expected from the maker and vintage, but had a nice shape, with fine tannins and good acidity framing firm flavours of dark cherries tinged with a little floral and spice. Strong finish too - plenty of muscle underlying sweeter dried red fruit note. Drinking nicely now.

2011 Buisson-Charles Meursault 1er Cru Gouttes d'Or 91 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Painfully young, but nice. This was a very competent 1er Cru indeed. The nose still had a touch of woodiness to it, before sweetly perfumed aromas of cream, flowers and ripe white fruit drifted out. Lovely stuff. The palate still held a lot of the vibrant acidity and tingly acidity of youth, with bright flavours of lemon curd and green apples coated with a layer of cream. Very Meursault. The finish ended up with a nice citrus lick and just that little hint of minerality - like sucking on a wet stone.

2007 Domaine Potinet-Ampeau Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Champs-Gain 92 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
A perfectly shaped little Puligny, this was drinking well young. The nose was a lovely melange of light cream, honeysuckle flowers, yellow fruit and gentle minerality. Really nice. I liked the palate too - bright and juicy, with a lovely definition to its pure white fruited tones, and then a sweet lemon curd twist on the midpalate, and a nice drift of flowers and stony minerality moving into a solid, substantial finish. A very complete, accomplished wine. Yummy now.
