Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2010 Domaine Michel Lafarge Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru

Very light colour; the nose needs some coaxing but opens up well in the glass, crushed red berries and spices, rosehip and undergrowth, minerals and dried flowers, discreet and subtle, lovely depth; ultra elegant and seamless palate, light as a feather and packing a real punch, silky and grippy, wonderful tension and harmony, hint of cream, relaxed and tightly coiled, linear and precise, understated flavours; beautiful resonance and length. Marvellous Volnay. Drink now-2030+.

  • 2014 Emmanuel Rouget Bourgogne Passetoutgrains 89 Points

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Passetoutgrains

A blend of 1/3 Pinot Noir and 2/3 Gamay. Youthful cherry red, light colour, lilac rim; more than a hint of reduction on the (otherwise aromatic) nose, field flowers and ripe red cherries, fresh and mineral; silky and juicy palate, soft yet fresh, lovely balance, elegant weight (12.5% ABV), just the right level of phenolic grip, peach and ripe green apple; bright flavours, good length. Once again a lovely, charming, Passetoutgrains, may gain another point in a few years' time.
