Introduction

It has been a very weak couple months for wine at home, since we found out that Tracy is pregnant. :) Tonight she convinced me to open something good. I couldn't turn her down.

Flight 1 - Dabob Bay Oysters with Shallot Migonette (1 Note)

  • 1989 Domaine Luneau-Papin Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine sur lie "L" d’Or 91 Points

France, Loire Valley, Pays Nantais, Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine sur lie

I bought this from Jeff at McCarthy a few months ago to enjoy with oysters. Tonight I finally decided to indulge. What a perfect match. When I first tasted it while I was still shucking I loved the exotic nose, but thought the palate was bit too acidic. When matched with the oysters (and shallot champagne migonette) I loved it. The nose showed lemon oil, crushed oyster shells, and pineapple. The palate had awesome minerality and vibrant acid. Wow. Let's say 88 by itself and 93 with the food.

Flight 2 - Steak and Lovely Bordeaux (1 Note)

  • 1990 Château Pape Clément 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

1990 really stinks. ;) The nose shows classic Bordeaux with cedar, lead pencil, and tobacco with some pine, vanilla, and roasted black fruit. The palate is very ripe with tastes of char, ultra ripe blackberries, dried herbs, and earth. This wine continues to improve with air.
