France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
An intriguing combination of ripe peach and apple with honeycomb, sweet spice and vanilla. Rich, unctuous and nicely concentrated. Slightly more advanced than I’d expect for 2010 Grand Cru right now (I’m cellaring most), but at a wonderful place now, right in its peak drinking window.
Opened and decanted 30+ minutes before serving. So beautifully and prototypically Vosne with its red fruit and baking spice. Moderate weight, concentration and length, but with impeccable balance and supreme elegance. This wine perfectly shows why I am so enthralled with Mugneret-Gibourg wines at every level. Good now, probably better in a few more years, and certainly charming through 2032-ish.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Decanted an hour before serving. Savory spice with red and black cherry. Certainly ripe, but just as certainly balanced. Impressive concentration for its level, just faintly hinting at where’s it will be 5-10+ years from now.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
An odd bottle. This seemed raisiny and somewhat pruned to start. A fresh pour an hour later seemed fresher, but still more advanced vs previous and better bottles.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Open, decanted an hour+ before serving. Red cherry and berry with fresh thyme and anise. Good weight and length, excellent balance and textural charm. At its peak now, but this will drink well for another decade.
