Introduction

In general the formula here is that the host sets a theme and every participant brings a wine of the theme. The host puts a few extra on the table. We taste all wines blind, knowing our own wines. We first taste a little bit in a random order. Then we decide together in which order the wines will be tasted again and after that revealed. In this group we do not use spittoons, so the number of bottles is limited. We don’t empty the bottles, but leave the leftovers for the host to taste again the next day, or take home the bottle we brought. In fact this easy setting where we taste the wines several times over 4 – 6 hours is the ultimate way to get a good impression of a wine.

Flight 1 (5 Notes)

  • 2008 Château Lagrange (St. Julien) 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

In the bouquet the wine is a bit locked and dusty and showing some bell pepper, cherries and red and black berries. On the palate a bit earthy, firm acidity and sticky tannin, vanilla and a good length. Still a very youthful wine with a good length. No problem to wait at least another 10 years. For today after lots of air: 90+. Potential for a bit more.

  • 2002 Château Gruaud Larose 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Rustic bouquet with barnyard and autumn impressions and also classical cabernet and cassis. On the palate red berries, bell pepper, rustic again, a touch of bell pepper, some sweetness and a touch of celery. A bit drying in the finish.

  • 2005 Château Bourgneuf 91 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

Beautiful and complex bouquet with good red and black fruits as well as sweet spices. On the palate an inviting wine with sweet spices, good acidity and round, soft tannin. Juicy wine with good bitterness and a good balance. Harmonious wine which is ready now and the next few years. In a perfect drinking stage now.

  • 2006 Château L'Evangile 95 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

Extremely beautiful and complex bouquet after given plenty of air. Dark berries, herbs, mocha, nuts and some metal. On the palate juicy dark berries, chocolate, good acidity, some pleasant bitterness and overall a very harmonious wine which is in its early maturity stage now and has plenty of future. Based upon tonight’s tasting experience I bought a few, so there will be a follow up on this TN.
