Introduction

Summer in London, that rare day that allows for a long BBQ with friends!

Flight 1 - The Welcome (1 Note)

Turkish Chilly Spiced up aged beef rib
Indian Spiced lamb chops
Halloumi

Gin & Tonics to go round!

  • NV Jérôme Prévost La Closerie Fac-Simile 90 Points

    France, Champagne

LC12 - Copper pink, soft, well managed on the ripeness and not confectionery. Fails to make an impact and show presence for us, if we can be a bit harsh about it and we definitely prefer his white champagnes a lot more. 90 from us

Flight 2 - Getting Serious (1 Note)

All thinly sliced and charred :
40 Day Black Angus Ribeye
40 Day New Zeland Wagyu

  • 1997 Tertre Rôteboeuf 94 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

Opened and left to rest for a good 30 minutes before served. We did not feel it needed decanting albeit one needs to be careful with the sediment here.
Very elegant wine, complex and true to our rule of thumb that Mitjavile makes very good wines in off vintages ( we like his off vintages more than the richer ones). Savory wine, good earthy touches but still with an undertone of rich & ripe fruit . Very good and effortlessly beautiful. 94 and drinks superbly now.

Flight 3 - Return to the spice (1 Note)

Aged beef & Nduja sliders

  • 1995 Domaine de Marcoux Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes 93 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Opened and left to rest for a good 2 hours.
This is one for the ones who like muscular and powerful CdP and this 1995 at 14.8% Alc does pack a punch from a time when global warming was not blamed for high alc. Not heavy and not a rich monster ( Not an Alban or SQN expression here :) ) crushed herbs, light earth spice and soft red fruits. Very interesting wine almost a blend of two different styles. Very good 93

Flight 4 - Back to the Roots (1 Note)

Souvlaki 2.0

  • 1999 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

Having tried this 2 years ago ( Papies 97) and loved it we were expecting a lot more. This was a very muted bottle and failed to show the charm and complexity we saw before. We mark it down as an off bottle and will not rate this time round

Flight 5 - The Sweetness (1 Note)

Watermelon
Olivogello Ice Cream

King Alexander III Single Malt too!

  • 1990 Château Climens 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Barsac

Full bottle. Dark orange in color and this orange feel continued tot he palate. Orange marmalade, light apricot, honey overlay. Very pretty and felt very much from a hot year in terms of richness. This wine has easily another 20 years of bottle life. 92-93
