Introduction

Bicycling on small roads and bicycle paths without planning much, looking for restaurants by luck. Started in Koblenz Germany following the river Mosel up to Nancy, continuing from Reims via Épernay and Vertus to Troyes, then further to Auxerre (Chablis) and via Vézelay and Auton to Chalon-sur-Saône.

Flight 1 - Mosel from Koblenz to Nancy (4 Notes)

Started with German precision, road signs are perfectly visible, hotels perfect, great breakfast just missed the extra in the wines we have tasted. This was changing at the French boarder, the road signs for bicyclists are sometimes there, sometimes not, similar with the restaurants, sometimes "so la la" but sometimes just stunning. In Metz we took unfortunately the wrong restaurant, just missed the nice places the old city with the touch of the south has, more luck we had in Nancy.

Flight 2 - Champagne from Reims to Troyes (4 Notes)

Start in Reims was not the best, all hotels in the city were fully booked, same with restaurants near the market hall. The surrounding not as fine as at the Côte d'Or, but very honest and real, a bit different from the picture you see in the commercials.

Flight 3 - Burgundy from Auxerre to Chalon-sur Saône (4 Notes)

The hills of Burgundy took more effort than the flat region of the Champagne, nevertheless, Auxerre and Autun we really loved, Vézelay worth to visit and having a short break and Chalon-sur-Saône was a nice surprise to us.

Closing

Not everything was recommendable, some restaurants and the wine we drunk there were not worth to note, but the champagne from Louis Casters, the Côteuaux Champenois from Veuve Doussot or the Côtes de Toul from Vincent Laroppe were nice discoveries.
We finished the tour at Chalon-sur-Saône with a visit of the "Maison des Vins" to get some souvenirs from Côte Chalonnaise.
