  • 2004 Penfolds Shiraz RWT 92 Points

    Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

    The nose had blueberries, and licorice, along with some bacon, some game, and a little leather. The palate was silky, with black currants, spice, some oak, and a bit of smoked meat. The finish was great.

  • 2005 Viña Cobos Merlot LaGarto 91 Points

    Argentina, Mendoza

    This was a fabulous Merlot. On the nose I got raspberry and blueberry, plus some spice, and a touch of oak. The palate was smooth, with blackberry, cloves, and pencil lead. The finish was great.

    The nose was a mocha bomb mixed with plum and mint. The palate was very nice, with boysenberry, currants, fig, and a touch of dark chocolate. The finish was great.

    I loved the tropical aromas on this wine. It had lots of passion fruit, and tropical fruit, plus some honey and an interesting musty smell. The palate was crisp, with pineapple, citrus, and a little stone. The finish was very good.

    A very nice Cab. The nose had blackberry, violets, and chocolate. The palate had black currants, raspberry, a hint of spice, and a finish of milk chocolate.

    The nose had peach, citrus, tropical fruits, and a little blue stone. The palate was crisp, with limes, oranges, and some minerality. The finish was good.
