Flight 1 (1 Note)

Great Californian Riesling, very saline and dry with a creamy touch

  • 2016 Chateau Montelena Riesling 94 Points

USA, California, North Coast, Potter Valley

    (10/24/2018)

Get it blind, ultra dry, saline, creamy (like a light oaked californian Chardonnay), stone fruits as yellow plum, good acidity structure, very precise in the late palate, reminds me to a Dönnhoff Hermannshöhle from the juicy minerality. Much too young 94+

Both phantastic frsh and drinkable

  • 1928 Château Magdelaine 95 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

    (10/24/2018)

More Burgundy style than Pontet Canet 1928. Softer, more moderat, great balance, nearly without any malty notes, herbals, thyme, pleasant toasty notes. well drinkable. 95

Pichon at his best and Mouton getting better with time

  • 1950 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron 98 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

    (10/24/2018)

Drank blindly, The nose is incredible, classical left bank Bordeaux, great cassis notes, still silky firm tannins, refreshing acidity and precise finish. olives, coffee and dark chocolate. 98

  • 1950 Château Mouton Rothschild 95 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

    (10/24/2018)

    Drank blind
feels more aged than the Pichon same vintage. But after 20-30 minutes it gets more elegant and precise. The malty notes disappear. At the beginning the finish gets a little bit short but after a while it gets more concentrated. Still intact acidity structure. Compared to the Pichon it is less fresh and dense but a nice grip in the late palate. 95

HB was one of my wines of the Night, very strong La Tour Haut-Brion

  • 1953 Château Haut-Brion 99 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

    (10/24/2018)

Perfect balance between fruit, acidity and tannins. Ripe, fresh and fruity. phantastic length and concentration. Together with Palmer 1970 my wine of the Night. 99

  • 1953 Château La Tour Haut-Brion 96 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

    (10/24/2018)

    Blind
Compared to the big brother Haut Brion same vintage it is also greatly balanced, maybe a touch too sweet, but has not the deepness and length of HB. But in perfect condition and in comparison to its price - I guess - the real winner. 96

Outstanding 1970, 61 not in best performance

  • 1970 Château Palmer 99 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

    (10/24/2018)

    Drank blind
The suprise of the night. It was close to perfection and "beat" the famous 1961. This is the good thing in blind tastings. But in this case the 61 was not in best condition, so evrybody loved the 1970. Great extract sweetness without being awkward. Strawberry jogurt and sweet cherries. Pristine and sublime concentration. 99

  • 1961 Château Palmer 95 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

    (10/24/2018)

    Drank blind against 1961.
Lactic nose, creamy at the palate, blueberry jogurt, missing the elegance and deepness I knew from this vintage. The aciidty is present but without the usual presssure and concentation. Compared to the 1970 today at second place. The finish was too short. 95

Great Chambolle Musigny

Flight 8 (2 Notes)

La Mouline from a bad bottle and Garnge not that strong as usual

Flight 9 (2 Notes)

  • 2000 La Mondotte 94 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

    (10/23/2018)

I would guessed left bank. A lot of black currant, silky and round. Fullbodied and powerful. Maybe a hint to one dimensional in late palate. needs time. Hedonistic. 94(95)
