(Large generic Riedel tasting glasses) Huge penetrating nose. Huge complex yet very clean fruit. Great acid and a long complex finish. A wine of unusual finesse given the huge fruit and acid. No detectable sweetness. Winemaker gave an aging potential of at least 12-15 years. Another stunning dry riesling.

(Large generic Riedel tasting glasses) Medium spicy nose. Nice dirty (terrior) red fruit, nice complexity, good acid and a nice finish. As good as many entry level Burgundies from good producers I have had and as good as some village level Burgundies as well. A bit of a revelation that German Pinot is this good.($26)

Winemaker Max von Kunow presented the wines.
(Large generic Riedel tasting glasses) Clean nose. Dry focused rocky tasting fruit, nice acid and decent finish. One of the better Sylvaners I've had but still not one of my favorite grapes. Winemaker suggested it was the perfect sushi/sashimi wine.

(Large generic Riedel tasting glasses) Was told this was an excellent Sheurebe but I just don't get this grape. I guess I just don't like Scheurebe. This one had a pleasant nose, with that typical (to me) odd tasting fruit and off-putting (to me) finish.

(Large generic Riedel tasting glasses) Big deep Burgundian nose. Big clean fruit with great complexity and a mineral terrior shining through brightly. Great finish of length and subtle complexity. Every bit as good as many 1er Cru Burgundies from major producers I've had. An outstanding wine for $38.

(Large generic Riedel tasting glasses) Big deep Burgundian nose. Big minerally fruit with very good complexity and a long very complex finish. Really outstanding fruit and terrior. Very distinct. Certainly better than or as good as many 1er Cru Burgundies I've had and as good as some Gr Crus. I had no idea German Pinot could be this good and this guy, Hansjorg Rebholz, is an amazing young winemaker.

(Large generic Riedel tasting glasses) Recently bottled barrel sample. Nice nose, big fruit, good complexity and nice finish. Very clean with the fruit showing through cleanly, if a little simple at this young age. Definately better than most basic Burgundies I've had from major producers and as good if not better than many village level wines as well. $19!

(Large generic Riedel tasting glasses) Recently bottled barrel sample. Big complex nose. Big complex red minerally fruit. Very good acid. Great finish. Really good purity and complexity in the fruit. This is an unusually high quality wine at this age and price ($29). This guy knows how to make pinot. Better than many 1er Crus from major Burgundy producers I've had.

(Large generic Riedel tasting glasses) WOW! Huge, dirty, terrior-filled, complex, penetrating, haunting nose. Deep, deep, unbelievably complex fruit with layer upon layer of haunting nuance. Long, long complex intense finish. One of the best three Pinots I've ever had (I haven't had DRC or Leroy, but I have had dozens of Gr Crus from other producers, so take it for what it's worth). Simply the best Pinot not from Burgundy I've ever had. Better than most Gr Crus. A truly world class wine! A revelation.

(Large generic Riedel tasting glasses) Decent nose. Clean, sweetish red fruit with good complexity. Very nice acid and a medium length finish. Very well developed fruit. Overall, very well balanced. A little more new world, but in no way overly fruity or simple.

(Large generic Riedel tasting glasses) Big deep Pinot nose. Big, clean, pure tasting fruit with very good minerality and many layers of complexity. A long interesting finish. Better than many 1er Crus from major Burgundy houses I've had and with potential to equal or surpass Gr Crus as well. An impressive wine. These high end German Pinots are really good and I think maybe the next "Big Thing".

(Large generic Riedel tasting glasses) WOW! Big deep, complex nose with amazing layers and nuance. The slightly tart fruit is equally as amazing with size, depth and complexity. The fruit had great minerality and a refined quality I've only had in Gr Crus from the better Burgundy houses. Very good acid. The complex finish builds and changes in the glass and goes on for a very long time. Another stunningly good German Pinot from a young winemaker to watch. I really do think high end German Pinot is going to be a big deal in the near future..

An amazing tasting! The quality of the wines was outstanding (except for the Scheurebe, which I just don't get). To a man, all six young winemakers said they are trying to take German wines in a new direction with minimal interference in the field or the winemaking process and a dedication to dry wines. A real revelation, particularly the Pinot Blancs (weissburgunder) and the Pinot Noirs (Spatburgunder). One of the most memorable tastings I have ever attended and, unbelievably, the cost was $40!
