  • 2016 Patrick Piuze Chablis Terroir Découverte

    France, Burgundy, Chablis

"This comes from a single 1.8 ha vyd just next to 1er Cru Vaulorent, the N-facing side of the Grand Cru hill, named Des Couverts. The vyd lies in a cool corridor and is typically the last wine to be harvested." -Importer; 1,146 cs made

N: Fairly fragrant lemons, earth, with notes of sandalwood?

P: Med, poss LM, body; RNDISH entry with NICE, almost swtish grn applish frt braced by acidity which slowly, fairly seamlessly morphs into quite a LONG, tangy/swt (60:40) finish with burgeoning notes of honey. For now & through '21, poss longer, + might well improve for another 6 mos or so. 12.0% ABV; My EXC, poss more eventually. 91 pts ea WS and Wine & Spirts, and 89 Burghound. [This vendor's $28.95 puts it @ the bottom of wine-searcher's TOP 1/2 of fairly limited listings.]

  • 2015 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Vieilles Vignes

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune

45 yr old vines mainly from the parcel Les Vermots Dessus

N: Forest floor & mushrooms with undertones of flowers & perfume

P: Med, poss LM, body; RNDISH entry with NICE frt braced by acidity which transitions into a LONG, but POSS very, VERY slightly tart finish *with* a tangy/swtness that encourages more. For now & through '20, + might still improve a tad. My EXC-. [I did not see another source with which to compare this vendor's $33.95.]

  • 2016 Jean-Philippe Fichet Rully Blanc

    France, Burgundy, Côte Chalonnaise, Rully

N: Butter slightly atop lemons & forest floor

P: Med body; RNDISH entry with NICE frt met by firming acidity which DOES loosen its grip by the LONG, balanced, tangy/swt finish with definite notes of honey. For now & into '20. My VG+/EXC-, likely shading more towards the higher. 90 pts John Gilman. [This vendor's $33.95 is $4 < the lower of wine-searcher's 2 current postings.]

  • 2016 Jean-Paul & Benoit Droin Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

N: ATTRACTIVE melange of cream & minerals with undertones of lemons

P: Med body; RNDISH entry with NICE frt met by a very, VERY slight pucker which continues its grip into & through the quite LONG, BALANCED, TANGY/swt (65:35) finish. DESERVES through '19, then drinking through '22 min. CLASSICALLY done! My EXC with more eventually? 90-92 pts ea WA & Vinous (Tanzer), 89-91 Burghound, and 16.5/20 Jancis Robinson. [This vendor's $33.95 is $1 < than anyone else currently listed on wine-searcher.]

  • 2015 Jean-Philippe Fichet Meursault Meix Sous le Château

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault

From a 0.4760 acre monople planted in 1955-1965. "Meix means 'a Close of Trees'. This plot is located in the village, with a W exposure. It is located under the town hall, facing W & sheltered from N winds. This land receives little morning sun but has a concentration of heat in the afternoon because of its orientation. In the bottom of the vyd the soil is generous; while the top is stonier."

N: Butter/vanilla with distinct mushroom notes, poss perfume? Intensity lurking?

P: Med body; Very NICE frt BEAUTIFULLY off-set by an acidity which subtly guides the process into the LONG, tangy/swt finish with an attractive, very, VERY slight bitterness. Approachable now, I suspect additional improvement into mid '19, then drinking through '21 min. STYLISHLY made! My EXC, likely more down the line. 91 pts Decanter, 89-91 Vinous (Galloni), 88-90 Burghound, & 16.5/20 Jancis Robinson. [I did not see another source with which to compare this vendor's $66.95.]

  • 2016 Domaine du Chateau de Meursault Meursault

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault

A blend of 5 plots: Les Grands Charrons, Les Meix Chavaux, Les Dressoles, En l’Ormeau, & Sous la Velle, planted in brown clay-limestone, gravel (Les Grands Charrons), & limestone alluvium soils with E–SE exposure from the bottom to mid-slope; Typically spends 12-15 mos on the fine lees in oak barrels (35% new, the rest 1 or 2 yrs old).

N: Perfumed notes slightly atop a VERY attractive, tough to parse melange

P: Med body; Rndish entry with surprisingly intense FRT/oak counterbalanced by an acidity which defines the wine into & through the LONG, tangy/swt, but still VERY tight finish. NEEDS through '19, poss even longer, to unwind, then drinking for 3 yrs more... min? My EXC-/EXC, which could well be quite an underrate... eventually. 90 pts Jasper Morris's Burgundy Report, & 88 Burghound. [I did not see another U.S. source with which to compare this vendor's $71.95.]
