  • NV Chartogne-Taillet Champagne Cuvée Sainte Anne 90 Points

    France, Champagne

Feb 2018 disgorgement, 50% 2015, 50% 2014/2013 vintage blends. This is really impressive quality for the base and seems like a great value. Bright citrus and pear fruit with light yeasty and doughy notes, and a chalky mineral finish, all conveyed with a vibrancy and elegance that makes it very easy to drink.

  • 2012 Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese feinherb Ur Alte Reben 92 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

As good as it was when I last had it five years ago. It's a brilliant bottle of Riesling with incredibly clear, fresh Mosel fruit, light florality, and an intense slatey minerality, all packaged with just a faint hint of sweetness that's perfectly balanced by bright acids.

  • 1994 Karl Haubs Bernkasteler Badstube Riesling Auslese 87 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

Pleasant though not particularly exciting - there's bright citrus and red apple fruit with lots of mature smoky and petrol notes, though there's also a slight chemical/vinyl like note on the nose that's distracting. It feels a touch soft for the vintage and finishes abruptly - a nice wine with Epoisses to start the tasting, though not one that kept me coming back.

  • 2014 Zepaltas Pinot Noir Nunes 89 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

Liked this a lot. There's a lot here that had me drawing parallels to Burgundy - bright red fruit accented with floral and lower toned earthy notes; a lightness of touch that makes it very easy to drink, and more acidity and tannin here than I typically find in a lot of Cali Pinots. This is drinking very nicely right now, though I imagine it'll age nicely given the balance and stuffing here.

  • 2012 Domaine Monier St. Joseph Les Serves 92 Points

France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, St. Joseph

Really good showing. A touch reductive on the nose, but lots of fresh red fruits and black olives beneath it that made it work nicely with the pizza. There's a lightly meaty/smoky character that becomes more apparent with air as some of the reduction clears, and I love the balance here - there's light grainy tannin on the back end, but a lot of the structure comes from bright acidity that makes it feel light on its feet and easy to drink.

  • 2011 Henri Jouan Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Clos Sorbé 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis 1er Cru

A good showing, though not on the level of my last bottle - perhaps a bit more advanced with the fruit a bit leaner, and the savoury earthy/pine needle/mushroomy elements much more prominent than I remember. In a good spot for drinking now though, I'll likely open my last bottle soon.
