Introduction

A range of great Burgundies and Bordeaux without a single flawed bottle which is incredible given the ages of the wines. A very lucky night!

Flight 4 (2 Notes)

  • 1990 Coche-Dury Corton-Charlemagne 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

Both the 1990 and 2003 tasted alongside it were very fragrant on the nose. Both were big round wines with prevalent oak and vanilla. More brute force than elegance.

Flight 5 (3 Notes)

Flight 6 (3 Notes)

This flight was much more evolved than the 1962-1971 flight preceding it. Lots of soy sauce, licorice and stewed fruit. Phenomenal complexity.

Flight 7 (3 Notes)

  • 1950 Château Cheval Blanc 93 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

Classic right bank profile with dark fruit but not heavy at all. A more evolved nose compared to the '52 and '53 tasted alongside. Still firmly tannic.

Flight 8 (3 Notes)

A spectacular flight! Three amazing wines, each with a different signature: The '45 is defined by its fruit, the '47 by its delineation, and the '49 by its nose. Wow!

  • 1945 Château Cheval Blanc 99 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

The fruit is amazingly young and fresh for a wine this age, just incredible. Sweet ripe raspberries with a long, long complex finish. This is so delicious and just impossible to put down.
