Flight 1 - HHS Hela Havet Stormar (5 Notes)

After some guesswork we were told these were Island wines. Then we started to get closer in our guesses. Fun flight, but paled in comparison with the next white flight quality wise.

Flight 2 - Valley of the Kings, King of the Valley. (5 Notes)

What a fantastic flight!

Flight 3 - Interlude. Calibration. (1 Note)

Maybe the best wine of the evening? At least top five. Excellent.

  • 2012 Ruggabellus Timaeus

Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

    Tasted double blind.

Almost transparent red color. So very aromatic. raspberry, a little fiery finish betrays warmer climate. So very fine. Mostly Grenache with some small percentages of mataro, cinsault and Syrah. Highly Recommended.

Flight 4 - Jedi and Padawans (4 Notes)

To be able to field such a quartet and to learn about how they are all acquainted with the original master starting off the flight. Wow. And the wines were great too.

Flight 5 - One district, one vintage, three villages. (3 Notes)

I think I was in Chianti. At least I got the country right... Found myself liking the most modern winemaking the best (the Scavino bric del fiasc)

Flight 6 - 100+ vintages (2 Notes)

We were all pretty much in new world Cabernet Sauvignon. And with the clue that these two producers had between the two, produced more than 100 vintages, that narrowed it down quite a bit.

  • 2010 Forman Cabernet Sauvignon

    USA, California, Napa Valley

    Tasted double blind.

More elegant and complex at first than the other, like a bordeaux blend, but everyone guessed new world. I guessed Napa cab. Very good. Recommended.

  • 2010 Ridge Monte Bello

    USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains

    Tasted double blind.

So very fine, cabernet nose, good freshness, but ripe berries. Pure cab. Guessed Monte Bello. So good! Highly Recommended.
