  • NV Jacques Selosse Initial 94 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

    Glass: Gabriel Standard
Disgorged in 2013. Nice golden color. Beautiful, precise and focused nose. Fine mousseux. On the palate very rich but focused and precise. Fine yellow fruit. Deep and complex, great mineral notes and vibrant energy and tension with an enormous pressure. Very long and fine finish. Great Champagne for sure. Amazing experience! 93-94

  • 1998 Dom Pérignon Champagne P2 95 Points

    France, Champagne

    Glass: Gabriel Standard
I thought: What can come after the amazing Selosse, but then came P2. Beautiful deep, dark nose, very compact and complex. On the palate simply: Wow! Fine mousseux, wonderful fine and elegant yellow fruit mixed with a wonderful saline mineral core. Juicy and delicious. Great pressure and tension and an incredible length. Very young, so no need to hurry! 95-96

  • 2011 Weingut Keller Hubacker Riesling Großes Gewächs 93 Points

    Germany, Rheinhessen

    Glass: Gabriel Standard
From Magnum. Popped and poured. Clear, pale golden color. Clean, medium intense nose with ripe, warm yellow fruit and wet stone.
On the palate quite typical for this vintage: round, balanced, but not as chubby as my last bottles. But also, a lively, racy and well-integrated acidity. Fine yellow fruit and some pineapple in the back. Some orange zests and nice bitter notes in the long finish. From Magnum still too young with a bright, shiny future. 92-93+

  • 2006 Franz Hirtzberger Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Honivogl 90 Points

    Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau

    Glass: Gabriel Standard
From Magnum. Popped and poured. My “disappointment” of the night. I had high hopes for this wine. Maybe our problem was, that we drank it side-by-side with the incredible fresh and racy 2011 Hubacker? In comparison with the Hubacker the Honivogl lacked tension and raciness. Certainly not at its full peak (in Magnum needs at least another decade). This bottle was not flawed, but seemed a bit flabby and hot (14,5% abv). Well balanced, classic Grüner Veltliner flavors. It will gain more complexity, but the lack of tension and acidity doesn’t give me much hope… 90-91

  • 2008 Château Mouton Rothschild 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

    Glass: Gabriel Standard
Decanted for about 30-45 min. Deep ruby color. Quite closed and muted nose with some rather harsh, green notes. Tannin was a bit unripe and astringent. IMHO way too young and not yet approachable. It will certainly develop, especially the nose, but I doubt, that the tannin will get better with time. 91-92 (+)

  • 2002 Podere Il Carnasciale Il Caberlot 94 Points

    Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT

    Glass: Gabriel Standard
Decanted for about 90 min. Deep ruby color. The complete opposite to the harsh 08 Mouton. Round, soft, well balanced, but with a good, medium+ acidity and silky velvet tannin. Very juicy, lots of black currant and cassis, some herbs and wonderful spices (white pepper). Long and lingering finish. Still young, with at least another decade of improvement. 93-94+

Flight 6 (3 Notes)

  • 1989 Château Montrose 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe

    Glass: Gabriel Standard
Popped and poured. A bit of cellar mold at the beginning that vanished with time and air. This is a beast that needs a lot of time and air. Unfortunately, we did not give it enough and I had not enough wine in my glass to follow its evolution over multiple hours. Wonderful, masculine Bordeaux that will gain complexity and depth over the next decade. Lots of power, wonderful red fruit, smoke, tobacco, very long. With enough air it is already a wonderful wine. 93+++

  • 1985 Château Mouton Rothschild 94 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

    Glass: Gabriel Standard
Popped and poured. Deep, ruby-tawny color. Compared to the 1989 Montrose that we had side by side way more feminine and open. Beautiful Bordeaux nose with leather, smoke, cigar box. Beautiful texture, well-integrated acidity, incredibly fine tannin, lots of dark fruit, good length. Certainly, at its peak, but will stay there for another decade or so. 93-94

  • 2000 Château Léoville Poyferré 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

    Glass: Gabriel Standard
Popped and poured. Deep, ruby color. Nose a bit muted with some barn. On the palate beautiful texture, silky and velvet. Black currant, fine tannin, salty mineral core. Very young with a good potential. 92+

  • NV Krug Champagne Brut Grande Cuvée Edition 164eme 92 Points

    France, Champagne

    Glass: Gabriel Standard
From Magnum. Pale golden yellow color. Nose with fine brioche and citrus notes. On the palate fine, citrus notes, well balanced, wonderful fine mousseux and mineral notes. Seemed veeery young to me. Not (yet) developed the complexity of the Selosse or the P2 we had this night. Needs a lot of time IMHO. 92-93++

  • 2005 Egon Müller Scharzhofberger Riesling Auslese 97 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

    Glass: Gabriel Standard
Popped and poured. Egon.Müller.Scharzhof.Auslese.great.vintage, do I need to write more? F.ck is that good! Fantastic, youthful and intense nose. I could smell that forever! Exotic fruit, mineral notes, herbs. Deep, complex and youthful.
On the palate already amazing: How can you produce a wine that is on the on hand light as a feather, dancing on your tongue and on the other hand hits you with a velvet hammer?! Enormous tension and concentration without being chubby or broad. Perfect mix of sweetness and acidity. Lots of ripe exotic fruit (passion fruit), wonderful mineral core, beautiful texture and an incredible length. This wine has potential for the next three decades! 96-97++

  • 1989 Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt Scharzhofberger Riesling Auslese 93 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

    Glass: Gabriel Standard
Popped and poured. I put that wine against the Egon Müller Auslese to show, how these wines can age. At first, when I tried both wines I thought: Damn, Egon is blowing this Kesselstadt completely away! But, you need to have patience and give it time and air. It is not as vibrant and energy loaded as the Müller Auslese, but it is a beautiful wine at its full peak. Nose with lots of tangerine and herbs. Very round and elegant. On the palate pure harmony and balance. Again, lots of tangerine and herbs, also some spices. Elegant and at its full peak. Long finish. Beautiful. 93
