In a zone. Effusive nose of mature black fruit, smoke, leather and earth tones. The palate is good fruit weight and bright, lifted finish. So deep and lively. One of my favorites in the vertical.
Next to the '96 this had a relatively modest and muted nose. Good black fruit with notions of Syrah funk but not intense or delineated. The palate was similarly correct yet unexciting. Still has rich fruit but missing that extra gear of intensity or complexity.
Group liked this more than me. I found it to be charming with a modest amount of N. Rhone complexity. The fruit was quite forward and easy drinking. A solid vintage.
(magnum) A beaming, intense nose that has a wonderful core of black fruit with complexity from all angles -- earth, leather, feral funk. The palate round and plush with excellent brightness, verve and intensity. Fantastic. WOTN.
Showing simpler at this stage. The nose is almost all fruit with little nuance at this stage. The palate is showing a bit more with some secondary notes like leather and meat emerging. Needs time. Upside from here.
Intense nose with perfumed florals accenting the fruit. Similar to the 06, this is still very much fruit driven at this stage. Delicious if a little rich and simple at this stage. Upside from here.
This got better in the glass, but the truth is that its just so primary right now. Barely showing any nuance with notions of leather and meat. Hold for 5+ years. Upside from here.
Basically a barrel sample, but a damn delicious one, that is hasn't shut down and is reasonably expressive. Big, inky and dense. Leather and meat on the palate add to the creamy black fruit. More enjoyable than the '15 at this same age. 95 point wine some day.
Wow, this is a really big and rich Syrah. Almost not recognizable as Cornas at the moment. Inky and rich. Betting on the producer, this ought to show better as it sheds its baby fat and fruit. But a tough drink right now.
Another big and ripe vintage, but this shows shades of classic N. Rhone whereas the 13 and 09 did not. Nice smoky, meaty and floral nuances are perceptible beneath the rich, inky black fruit. Needs 10+ years. Mid 90s wine, for sure.
