Flight 1 (5 Notes)

  • 2008 Villa Maria Pinot Noir Single Vineyard Southern Clays 94 Points

    New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough

Clean fruity notes, red/dark berries, fresh m++ acidity, liquorice, sweet core, medium length. Super smooth, balanced and elegant. I tasted this aged Marlborough two years ago, too impressed to forget, so no doubt it’s Southern Clay 08, and it’s definitely rewarded by cellaring.

I picked it as #1 tonight for its purity and balance. Rated #2 by group.

    Ap 5/5, Ar 13/15, Palate 18/20, Overall 4+4/10
    Total 94/100

Sour cherry. High note acidity. Medium bodied, m- smooth tannins. Some spices and liquorice, very typical Marlborough PN, pure, simple, fresh, linear. Very good wine in its own way.

  • 2010 Mountford Pinot Noir Estate 94 Points

New Zealand, South Island, Canterbury, Waipara

Dark ruby/garnet, dense, sweet herbal, earth and savoury notes. No doubt, this untypical and unique style must be Mountford! Amazing on its concentration and complexity. This wine expands boundary of NZ PN.
I recognised my wine and rated it #2, however #1 by group.

  • 2009 Gros Frère et Sœur Vosne-Romanée 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée

M+ ruby, garnet hue, not very clear. Savoury notes dominating, earth, mushroom, meat, some spices. Not clean and precise, smooth tannins, solid acidity, medium length.

I put this burgundy in blind tasting as a benchmark, however, it’s in a bit listless status.

    Ap 5/5, Ar 11/15, Palate 17/20, Overall 3+3/10
    Total 89/100
