Comprehensive exploration of Marqués de Murrieta wines.
Murrieta is a true founder of Rioja. First vines were planted back in 1825 and the winery was founded in 1852. In 1878 he acquired Ygay estate with its vineyards which became one of the greatest bodegas in Spain.

1966 Marqués de Murrieta Rioja Ygay Reserva Flawed
Spain, La Rioja, Rioja
🏅Rating (NR)
Way over the hill, but alive. Wet cellar on the nose. Preserved sweetness. 2+ hours of aeration actually helped to bring the life back into wine.

1982 Marqués de Murrieta Rioja Ygay Reserva 87 Points
Spain, La Rioja, Rioja
🏅Rating 87/100 (3,7⭐)
Brown color. Cognac aromas, caramel, honey cake. High acidity. Doesn't hold the age to my view. Empty mid-palate.

1994 Marqués de Murrieta Rioja Ygay Reserva 90 Points
Spain, La Rioja, Rioja
🏅Rating 90/100 (4,0⭐)
Fragrant. Intense perfumed wine. Iron. Somewhat reductive. We guessed it comes from the long time contact of the wine with the sediment in the bottle. Fades away rather quickly.
