Introduction

In our neighborhood there is a new competition. You get 6 white wines and 6 reds. One at a time and completely blind. As a participant you have to determine varietal or blend, country, region, other details like a more detailed appellation or info about oak usage etc. Finally also the producer.
This tasting in which wines are also poured fully blind is in fact to practice for this competition.

  • 2017 Château Combel la Serre Cahors 88 Points

    France, Southwest France, Cahors

In the bouquet a bit rustic, cherries and sweet impressions. On the palate juicy red berries, cherries, herbs and spices, good and fresh acidity and slightly sticky tannin. Modern style. I "guessed" Malbec correctly and surprisingly it was a Cahors as I expected, although this is not the usually stubborn Cahors. Nice wine! 87 - 88

  • 2018 Yann Bertrand Fleurie Cuvée du Chaos 91 Points

    France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Fleurie

In the bouquet cherries and maceration carbonique. On the palate juicy and fresh red fruits, mainly cherries, sweetness and also pleasant fresh acidity. Silky soft tannin. Not complex and intriguing, but so youthful and fresh and intriguing for that reason. Generally I am not a fan of Gamay, but in this style, I might become one.
