First retailer tasting of the topical GG vintage

Mövenpick is the biggest and best asorted Riesling retailer shop in my hometown.
Just one week after the GG release at the capital Mövenpick invited its customers to try some bottlings which are still available.

Some bottlings, like Hermannshöhle, Dellchen, Morstein or Brunnenhäuschen are no longer in their wine list.

If you do not purchase these in advance, you will hardly find some bottles for a fair trading price on the market soon.

And still, in my honest opinion especially the german Riesling GGs are a real bargain!

The atmosphere is really relaxed at this shop, you can walk around and pour from the specific bottle you liketo taste.

And you always meet pleasant people: WINE IS CULTURE!

• 2018 Rudolf Fürst Centgrafenberg Riesling Großes Gewächs

  THis one has an enormous Riesling bite, both mineralic and zesty acidic, some grapfruit, well structured, enormous tension in the aftertaste, great showing, *(***-?), 92,93(+?)

• 2018 Rudolf May Retzstadter Langenberg Himmelspfad Silvaner Großes Gewächs

  The next Silvaner GG, this time fermented nine months in barrels, very creamy flow, quite harmonic, pears and apples, very good and long, not realy my prefered stile, oak treatment is for Chardonnay......., **(*-?)

• 2018 Fritz Haag Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling Großes Gewächs

  Hmmm, I am always wondering why this estate is launching a dry GG from one of the very best vineyards for off dry Rieslings, this is a good dry example, but lacking the punch the best samples of GG Riesling are famous for, a little uninspired? Not really for me today, but time will tell, *(**-?)

• 2018 Van Volxem Volz Riesling

  Van Volxem is the next one, very digestibel, nearly 7 to 8 gr. residual sugar, low ABV (12%), that young very harmonic and elegant, but lacking the pure Riesling bite, tension and the very real purity, so overall not for me, **(*-?)

• 2018 Von Schubert Maximin Grünhäuser Abtsberg Riesling Großes Gewächs

  WOW, I am enamored, did not tate at the booth of this estate at Berlin last week, but this one is even greater than the Herrenberg, luscious savioury stonefruit on the midpalate, rich delicious peaches, the superb tension fist is covered by rich fruit, quite harmonic with some aeration, very long aftertaste, for me overwhelming today, but will improve over a decade++ by further cellaring, **(***), 95(+) potential

  Again a Riesling revelation, some herbal tones, chalky, lemon zesty, maybe a little tart, maybe this is from the lacking residual sugar, an "extra brut" Riesling, very long, great though, *(***)

  A little unharmonic at first, still some aromas from the fermentation, a real limestone Riesling, salty stone licking, all about minerality, did not try my KPK Kirchspiel for a comparison, the KPK is too hard to get even in its homecountry! *(***- +), 93(+) potential

• 2018 Wagner-Stempel Siefersheimer Heerkretz Riesling Großes Gewächs

  One from the Nahe, a reference bottling, wait...., this is from Rheinhessen, but on the border to the Nahe zone, superb purity of the cristalline stonefruit, a great showing, again, the pure finesse ultralong aftertaste with a demanding but well structured acidic driven fruit showing, *(****), 94,95(+) potential

  The next harmonic and for me uninspired Riesling GG, is this so called gastronomic? Lacking a lot I do search in a great Riesling bottling, and I do know, this estate can do much better, maybe this one needs mature for some years, I really do not know today, gentle aftertaste, *(*-***-?)

  There are only two bottlings from Dönnhoff to taste today, The searched for ones are sold out, a week after their market launch, this Krötenpfuhl is juicy, silky refreshing yellow fruit, quite open with some aeration, rich and generous aftertaste, **(**-?)

• 2018 Emrich-Schönleber Halenberg Riesling Großes Gewächs

  Frankly, this is one of the reference bottlings from the Nahe and therefore from the whole of Germany, this energetic showing, tension rules again, salty, stone licking, zesty yellow fruit, lots of Riesling race, taut, great density, very lingering aftertaste, for the next decade++, *(****), reference, 96(+) potential
