Monthly tasting club LTC 2019-09: A random selection

In our neighborhood there is a new competition. You get 6 white wines and 6 reds. One at a time and completely blind. As a participant you have to determine varietal or blend, country, region, other details like a more detailed appellation or info about oak usage etc. Finally also the producer and also the vintage.
This tasting in which wines are also poured fully blind is in fact to practice for this competition.

• 2018 La Cave de Bennwihr Muscat Alsace Tradition 86 Points

  France, Alsace

  Muscatel in the bouquet and on the palate, a lot of sweetness, some acidity and a bit fat. Tasty wine.

• 2014 Domaine Santa Duc Côtes du Rhône Villages Sablet Le Fournas 88 Points

  France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône Villages Sablet

  White fruits, some green apple and impressions of herbs in the bouquet and on the palate, a touch of sweetness and good acidity. When the wine was a bit warmer, it became much more beautiful.

  Portugal, Minho, Vinho Verde

  A lot of citrus and green impressions in the bouquet. On the palate a bit special, but certainly ok with a lot of fresh acidity.

  White and yellow fruits, some green impressions and a clear dose of oak. On the palateripe yellow fruits, vanilla and good acidity.

  France, Burgundy, Chablis

  The bouquet is a bit rustic with citrus, pear, melon and limestone. On the palate the same impressions, firm citrus acidity, a bit drying, chalky, some bitterness and length.

  Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

  Minerals and some petrol in the bouquet. Same on the palate, good concentration, beautifully fresh acidity and a pleasant touch of sweetness.

  New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough

  Very transparent. Smoky bouquet with red berries and minerals. Same on the palate. Good acidity and mild tannin. Surprisingly beautiful.

  Concentrated bouquet with ripe black and red berry fruits and laurel. On the palate concentrated and full bodied, red berries and chocolate. The wine was a little more developed than expected.

• 2018 Bodega Norton Malbec Barrel Select 86 Points

  Argentina, Mendoza, Lujan de Cuyo

  In the bouquet ripe red berries and cherries as well as lactic impressions. On the palate a round wine with mild acidity and slightly sticky tannin, cherries and some chocolate. Will improve with a few years of ageing. 86 for now.

  In the bouquet red berries, mint and some tobacco. On the palate a full bodied wine with ripe black and red berries, some chocolate, good acidity and tannin as well as a touch of sweetness and bitterness. Complete wine in its maturity stage now and with a future of a few years.

  A lot of vanilla and beautiful oak and red berries in the aromatic bouquet. On the palate a beautiful wine with juicy red and dark berries and eucalyptus. Delicious and something special. Ready now and the next few years.
