Introduction

Everything was a complete surprise for the participants in this tasting.
But what a lovely surprise it was! :-)

Flight 1 (3 Notes)

Flight 2 (3 Notes)

  • 1999 Badia a Coltibuono Chianti Classico Riserva 92 Points

Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG

Beautiful bouquet with stable smells, autumn forest, tobacco, chocolate and leather. Complex and with a beautiful touch of oak. On the palate also a beauty, earth, complex and juicy with a touch of sweetness and red fruit acidity. Mild acidity. The wine developed real quickly in the glass. Just after pouring it certainly deserved a score of 92.

  • 1999 Badia a Coltibuono Sangioveto di Toscana 90 Points

    Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT

The bouquet is not extremely expressive. There are some green impressions beside the earth, mushrooms and autumn smells. Same on the palate, red berries, tobacco and juicy tannin. Still a lovely wine.

Flight 3 (3 Notes)

  • 1999 Château Lalande 90 Points

In the bouquet espresso, dark berries and licorice. Also cedar and salty licorice. Beautiful and complex bouquet. On the palate dark berries, beautifully dosed oak, chocolate, some licorice, juicy and fresh acidity and lovely soft tannin. What a great surprise! This relatively simple wine is in this mediocre vintage still a small feast after 20 years :-).

Closing

Bert, many thanks for this wonderful surprise!
And while entering this tasting notes in Cellartracker, I noticed that you poured two Giscours 1999 on a previous occasion. And those were also corked. Really a sad story!
