A chance to taste a few Rose's from around the world
Some interesting wines and some real dogs here but, regardless, a lot of learning and fun. There is a move from a sweet fruit/residual sugar feel to a more savoury and, well, Old World in Australia that is still in it's infancy so seems to be a bit hit and miss...
2019 Best's Great Western Rosé
Australia, Victoria, Western Victoria, Great Western
Slight green notes, sulphur, a little sour cherry. Juicy, creamy, fruit forward, soft, simple, very slightly bitter on finish but pretty enough.

Slight bitter skin notes accompany red berries, a little almost reductive note. Sour and rather bitter and unpleasant on palate. Nah.

2017 Philip Shaw Pink Billy Saignée
Australia, New South Wales, Central Ranges, Orange
Savoury, smells 'structured', darker shade points to extended skin contact, red voer blackberry fruit. Very slightly spritz on the palate, sulphur, it's a little bitter and a touch hard for a rose for me. Time? But not enough for the fruit perhaps...Hmm

2018 Mirabeau Côtes de Provence Classic Rosé
France, Provence, Côtes de Provence
Savoury, slight saline, red berry, a little farty funkiness. Juicy, savoury, funky, structured, red berries, finishes dry with burr grip across the palate. Balanced. Nice.

2018 Mirabeau Côtes de Provence Étoile
France, Provence, Côtes de Provence
Savoury, saline again but with slightly richer red berry fruit, a little more 'polished', slight oak?. Juicy, fleshy, textured, fruit forward without being sweet. Out of whack for me and finishes bitter. Meh.

2018 Caves d'Esclans Whispering Angel
France, Provence, Côtes de Provence
Medium minus intensity aromas of cream, red berry, a little butter and sweet spice, slightly funky with floral top notes. Juicy but rather worked on the palate. Savoury and bitter and, well, not very nice. Alcohol warmth is obvious on the finish but not massively intrusive.

2019 Patrick P Series Field Blend
Australia, South Australia, Limestone Coast, Coonawarra
Ooh, how odd. I'm getting quite green and herbaceous notes; lime and lemon as well. Sour acid note, a smidge of residual sugar to help it along with a touch of mid palate burr and front of mouth grip. Confusing.

2016 Finca Nueva Rosado
Spain, La Rioja, Rioja
Cheesy, funky wild ferment fun initially, very slight oxidative notes lend an aldehyde quality. Red strawberry fruit struggles beneath this on the nose. Palate offers similar notes, a touch of yeast extract and plenty of structure, drying tannins. fruit a little muted but that savouriness travels long though. Hmm.

2015 Gérard Bertrand Coteaux du Languedoc La Clape Château l'Hospitalet La Reserve Rosé
France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Coteaux du Languedoc La Clape
Slightly stalky red berry fruits, slightly meaty and peppery notes tend to charcuterie. A little alcohol heat married to a touch of bitterness but the red fruit character is still present though it does finish a little short.

2016 Mischief and Mayhem Coteaux Bourguignons Rosé
France, Burgundy, Coteaux Bourguignons
Medium minus intensity aromas of slight herbs, a little muted red fruit...bit meh on the nose. Juicy and fleshy on the palate with sour strawberry fruit and a whisper of milky mouth coating burr on mid palate. Innocuous.

Pretty jubey ripe strawberry and raspberry fruit. Off dry, jubey fruit juice, sticks out from the other wines here. Old school Aussie Rose if you can imagine such a thing.

2018 Chalmers Rosato
Australia, Victoria, Central Victoria, Heathcote
A little riper than the SC Pannell, pretty red fruit, a little sweet spice. medium plus intensity acidity lends the red berry fruit a sour note but there is also alcohol heat. A little burr on the front of the mouth/gums. Nah.

2018 Brigitte & Gerhard Pittnauer Rosé
Austria, Burgenland
That sour whole bunch whole berry thing shows a little tomato leaf and ketchup. Not a promising nose. Sour acid married to similar flavours, a touch of ashiness and some residual sugar lends the tomato sweetness and chalky textured grip. Lots going on...most of it bad.

2017 La Linea Tempranillo Rosé
Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Adelaide Hills
A little sulphur initially, red berry tends to strawberry, a little sweet spice. Medium plus intensity acidity, wild strawberry, alcohol heat is too much for the wine but this is otherwise rather nice.

2018 Château la Tour Sainte Anne Côtes de Provence Rosé
France, Provence, Côtes de Provence
Savoury, slightly herbaceous notes, mineral over slightly sour fruit that shows red currant. A little volatility as well on the nose. Bone dry, that volatility features on the palate, tight fruit slightly riper. There is an inherent balance here but it's hmm for me.

2018 Château Sainte Anne Bandol Rosé
France, Provence, Bandol
Savoury, riper red berries, again that slight volatility, a little meaty note. In the mouth medium plus intensity acidity, riper red fruits, the volatility more diminished. All travel long. Finishes a little bitter with slight alcohol warmth. Hmm.

2018 Grace Winery Grace Rosé

Smoked bacon fat dominates the nose. With time a little tomato and savoury meaty notes. In the mouth it's savoury, bone dry, tannic burr really closes down the palate. a tiny amount of fairly anonymous fruit and tomato. Just plain odd.
