Introduction

Another excellent tasting with friends. Three of us shared four wines.

Flight 1 (4 Notes)

  • 2010 La Pousse d'Or Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Feusselottes 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

Served alongside Groiseilles, both opened at 4 PM, tasted at 6:30. Plenty of red cherry and berry throughout with hints of vanilla, orange peel, and anise. Still slightly firm, but this is so bright that is comes across as accessible, even if not fully harmonized yet...but close. So enjoyable now, with upside. I haven't tasted this since visiting Pousse d'Or in 2012 and like it more now vs then.

  • 2010 La Pousse d'Or Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Groseilles 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

Served alongside Feusselottes, both opened at 4 PM, tasted at 6:30. Less accessible vs Feusselottes, more backward. while still showcasing very bright and brawny red fruit. Just more tannic, particularly on finish. The rare 2010 that isn't quite harmonious today, but clearly showing its potential. I liked this a lot more a year ago, and won't open another bottle until 2025 or later.

  • 2010 Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Chatelots

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

Also opened at 4:15, first tasted at 6:30. Black and red cherry with impressive concentration, while also showing Chambolle's ferrous, mineral textures. Another rare 2010 that is coming across as somewhat backward, this is hinting at impressive potential, but that isn't fully expressing itself in pleasure tonight. Kept getting better and better, with last tasted at 10 PM being the best. 91-92+ point potential.

  • 2008 Lucien Le Moine Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

Opened and decanted at 3 PM, first tasted at 6:30 Still slightly reductive when first tasted, which took a good 30 minutes in glass to dissipate. Even then, still backward for another hour+, but this slowly, grudgingly opened up and softened nicely by 9 PM. At that point, plenty of red berry and orange peel came through with meaty, fully savory spice. Very long finish. So...both patience and air are required.
