Flight 1 (1 Note)

  • 2002 Krug Champagne Clos du Mesnil 98 Points

    France, Champagne

    Glass: Zalto Universal
Tasted blind. Incredibly fine nose with lots of yellow fruit, salt, herbs. Even minutes after the glass was emptied, the scent was still there.
On the palate it is all about finesse and elegance. So extremely fine and delicate! Fine mousseux, delicate flavours. No blockbuster or sledge hammer. You have to focus, but then it really starts rocking. Such an elegant energy, precision and focus. So salty. And the length is unbelievable. Did I mention the perfect balance and harmony? Certainly, the best Champagne in my life so far. Great potential for the next decades. What a pleasure! 98+

Flight 2 (1 Note)

  • 2007 Egon Müller Scharzhofberger Riesling Auslese 93 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

    Glass: Zalto Universal
Tasted blind. Deep golden yellow color. Riesling Auslese, probably Gold capsule. Very ripe fruit, great balance, depth and harmony. For Egon Müller 2007 far to advanced. Bottle was not flawed though. Interestingly from the exact same cellar as my last bottle, but this one was different. When an Egon Müller Auslese is one of the weakest wines of the evening, you know that this evening is special... 93-94

  • 2019 Julian Haart Wintricher Ohligsberg Riesling Alte Reben Kabinett 92 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

    Glass: Zalto Universal
Bottle opened a day before. Still painfully young, but you can feel the amazing potential. So much extract, such wonderful mixture of pure fruit, mineral notes and herbs. Long and very fine. Needs 5+ years to fully integrate all of its components, but then it will be one of the best Kabinetts of the 2019 vintage. 92+++

Flight 5 (1 Note)

  • 2018 Weingut Keller Piesporter Schubertslay Riesling Großes Gewächs Alte Reben 96 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

    Glass: Zalto Universal
Only 360 bottles auctioned. I adore Mosel Riesling, I adore Keller, but never would I though that this kind of wine would be possible! Fantastic, already very open nose. White peach, fine herbs, white blossoms, stony mineral notes. Very deep and complex.
On the palate astonishingly dry. Enormous pressure and extract. Very herbaceous and complex. Already open for business and very joyful to drink, but I assume it will gain complexity over the next decade. Great elegance and harmony, only the acidity is not yet fully integrated and a bit tasting like fruit drops. Amazing length! At first I would have given the wine 97-98, but after the other Keller wines I would go for 95-96++ and I am sure, that it will gain 2+ points in a decade. Certainly the best Mosel GG I have drunk so far!

  • 2017 Weingut Keller Abts E® Riesling Großes Gewächs 95 Points

    Germany, Rheinhessen

    Glass: Zalto Universal
Tasted blind. Bottle opened a day before. Meagre, stony nose, deep. On the palate dry, enormous pressure, vibrance and energy. Lots of crushed stones, fruit is in the background. Very balanced and deep. Long. Still painfully young, but way more open than my last bottle. This is going to be a killer in the making! 2017 is a huge success for Keller. Wait 5-10+ years and it will be a perfect wine. 95-96++

Flight 7 (2 Notes)

  • 2013 Weingut Keller Abts E® Riesling Großes Gewächs 94 Points

    Germany, Rheinhessen

    Glass: Zalto Universal
Popped and poured. Nose riper than 2017, some pineapple, lots of crushed stones, deep.
On the palate also a bit rounder, more fruity than 2017. Very fine, lots of pressure, yellow stone fruit, orange peel, crushed stones. Unbelievable long and lingering. Slowly starting to get ready, but I think it still needs 5+ years to fully shine. 2013 is my second favourite vintage of the past decade for Keller after 2017. 94-95+

  • 2009 Weingut Keller Abts E® Riesling Großes Gewächs 95 Points

    Germany, Rheinhessen

    Glass: Zalto Universal
Popped and poured. Drunk parallel to 2017 and 2013. You can feel the change in style. 2009 is way more fruit driven than the younger vintages. But it has the same tension and energy, so Keller’s handwriting is undeniable. Nose with some ripe pineapple and wet stones.
Lots of pressure, very mineral and long. Drunk alone I would have rated it probably higher, but it has not the precision and focus of 2017. Nevertheless an awesome wine that is slowly starting to reach its peak. 95+

  • 2016 Weingut Keller Pettenthal Riesling Großes Gewächs Auction 96 Points

    Germany, Rheinhessen

    Glass: Zalto Universal
Popped and poured. Tasted blind. Clos des Mesnil 2002 in Riesling! Very fine, floral nose with some white peach. Delicate and beautiful.
On the palate it is all about precision, focus and elegance. Keller for sure, but what? Rheinhessen? No, to fine. Red slope in Nierstein? Hmm, lacks the typical orange notes I usually find. But this is really amazing. Such a pressure, such laser like focus and acidity. So much stony energy. Such a length! Way more open than my last bottle. Amazing potential for the future. This will become one of the best dry Riesling in 2016 for sure. 96-97++

  • 2004 Dönnhoff Hermannshöhle Riesling Großes Gewächs 96 Points

    Germany, Nahe

    Glass: Zalto Universal
Popped and poured, drunk over two days. Perfect bottle. Youthful pale golden color. Fantastic nose, young, complex and deep with herbs, fine mineral notes from crushed stones and ripe stone fruit. On the palate an enormous pressure and tension! High, perfectly integrated acidity. Wow! Combined with a fantastic depth and balance. Fresh fruit flavours, awesome mineral core, herbaceous. Vibrant energy. Great length. At its full peak, but certainly with potential for another decade on this level. 95-96

  • 2007 Dönnhoff Hermannshöhle Riesling Großes Gewächs 94 Points

    Germany, Nahe

    Glass: Zalto Universal
Popped and poured, two bottles drunk in parallel over two days. Perfect bottles. Youthful pale golden color. On day one quite similar/comparable to 2004, on day two a bit weaker, more advanced with more mellow apple notes. Wonderful mineral nose with lots of yellow stone fruit. Classic Hermannshöhle with a wonderful energy depth and length. Potential for at least 5+ years. On day one certainly 95 on day two 92-93 = 94

Flight 10 (1 Note)

  • 2001 Château d'Yquem 96 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

    Glass: Zalto Universal
Popped and poured from half bottle. How do you approach the highest rated wine in CellarTracker? Glowing medium amber color. Warm, balanced, fine and deep nose with some volatile acidity. We should have decanted the bottle.
You need to drink Yquem with a certain temperature. If you drink it to cold as we initially did, it is “just” a good Sauternes. If gets the right temperature (around 12 degree Celsius) it starts to open up and develops an unbelievable depth, pressure and length. So fine, elegant, multi-layered and complex. The length is almost NEVER.ENDING. Absolutely fantastic, but IMHO not yet at its full peak. 96-97++

  • 2007 Clos Rougeard (Foucault) Saumur-Champigny Le Bourg 96 Points

Opened about 2h before, decanted right before drinking. Perfect bottle, bought at release. Clear, medium raspberry color. Wonderful deep and intense nose with lots of herbs, red fruit, spices.
On the palate very elegant and balanced. Great acidity, lots of cassis, pepper and garden herbs. Beautiful texture, lots of pressure and depth. Very long. Slowly reaching its peak, but at least potential for further development of 10+ years. 95-96

  • 1993 Von Schubert Maximin Grünhäuser Abtsberg Riesling Auslese Nr. 83 96 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

    Glass: Zalto Universal
Popped and poured. Drunk over two days. Clear, glowing orange golden color. Beautiful intense nose of cassis, elder, tangerine, garden herbs and crushed stones. I adore this perfume.
On the palate it is all about finesse and balance. The high acidity is perfectly integrated. Only 8% abv. The wine is dancing on your tongue and perfectly balanced. Never cloying or sticky, rather lean with a wonderful energy and an amazing length. Worthy finish of this great evening. 96-97
