  • 2019 Lukas Hammelmann Riesling vom Löß 84 Points

    Germany, Pfalz

    Glass: Zalto Universal
On special request double decanted a few hours before drinking. Drunk over three days. Screw cap. Clear, medium lemon-golden color. Clean, medium intense, youthful nose. Lots of green apple, stony mineral notes, floral notes and some ripe fruit in the background, partially also fresh honey. Fresh, crisp and nice.
On the palate dry with a high acidity. Unfortunately, the acidity is a bit green and tart and unbalanced. It feels like biting into an unripe citron. And this behavior has not changed over the course of the three days. Only 11% abv. Aromas of green apple, chalky mineral notes and some bitterness (zests, grapefruit). Medium length. Solid entry level dry Riesling and “ok-ish” for the price tag ex winery. For the 16 EUR I paid a rather disappointment (at least in the current state). 83-84

  • 2009 Karthäuserhof Eitelsbacher Karthäuserhofberg Riesling Großes Gewächs 94 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

    Glass: Zalto Universal
Inspired by the guys from Mosel Fine Wines we bought a perfect bottle of this wine. Double decanted about 3h before. Clear, youthful pale golden color. Clean, medium+ intense, developing nose. Very mineral, smoky with a touch of petrol, yellow fruit, salted citrus, mint and other herbs. Very dense and deep, airy, fresh and pure. Awesome nose!
On the palate astonishingly dry. Not Mosel dry, really dry! Medium+, racy acidity. Only 12,5% abv. Very salty and smoky, lots of herbs,, crushed stones, zests, lemon and citrus notes. Very young, dense and vibrant with great tension and pressure. Very long and lingering. This is for sure the second best Mosel GG I have drunk so far and it has potential for further ageing of at least 5+ years. Great wine! 94-95

  • 2013 Weingut Schätzel Niersteiner Pettenthal Riesling Trocken Flawed

    Germany, Rheinhessen

    Glass: Zalto Universal
Tasted blind. This bottle was not optimal, hence no CT rating. Clear, medium golden color. Rather advanced for this young vintage.
Very noticeable cork (cellar mold, wet cardboard) at first that went away after a few minutes in the glass and later in the bottle, hence we drank the wine. Once the mold was gone it showed ripe salty citrus notes and chalky mineral notes. Dense and beautiful.
On the palate dry, medium+ tight acidity. Ripe, salty Amalfi citrus, lots of chalky mineral notes. Impressive pressure and tension, very deep and lean. Only 11% abv. Long. I would rate even this not optimal bottle 91-92.
PS: Was not a GG back in 2013. Just Pettenthal Riesling trocken.

  • 2014 Envinate Taganan Parcela Amogoje 91 Points

    Spain, Canary Islands

    Glass: Zalto Universal
Tasted blind. Decanted about 30min before drinking. Clear, deep golden color. Clean, medium- intense, developing or fully developed nose. Interesting mixture of reductive notes and popcorn as well as some oxidative notes, burnt almonds, vegetables, sea breeze. Not overly complex and I don’t know, if I like it…
Bone dry, medium+ acidity, 13% abv, well integrated. Medium body. On the palate at first quite boring, some vegetables, oxidative notes, reminding me of a fruity Manzanilla Sherry. But then it starts its afterburner: Salt and vibrant tension! Coating the whole palate for Minutes. Pressure and tension. Very elegant and fine. Very long finish and salty. This wine is like Jekyll and Hyde. Parts that I find boring and parts that I really like 😊 This wine should go very well with Spanish Tapas and it is not made to drink by oneself. Beautiful and very interesting experience! Potential? Very hard to guess for me. 91-92

Popped and poured, tasted blind. Clear, deep golden color. Clean, medium+ intense, fully developed nose. Lots of herbs, tangerine, dill, fine vanilla, some caramel. I could swear this is Ruwer! And I still don’t believe it, that this is the Erdener Prälat 😊
Medium-sweet, wonderfully buffered and balanced by the medium+ perfectly integrated acidity. Only 8% abv. Fine fruit, tangerine, vanilla with a lovely mineral core? RUWER!!!! 😊 Wonderful balance and harmony, very little botrytis, creamy, juicy and very elegant. Looong, juicy finish with fine fruit and lots of grip. My first Christoffel in perfect condition!
