Flight 1 (5 Notes)

  • 2018 Château Kefraya Les Bretèches

    Lebanon, Bekaa Valley

N: Minerals with notes of flowers, poss grass? Fairly fragrant

P: Med body; RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt (approaching threshold R.S.?) met by a crisp acidity which keeps things under control into & through the LONG finish with a balanced tangy/swtness. Should work as an aperitif, & poss with lighter fare for now & into '21. My VG+, arguably EXC- for QPR? [This vendor's $8.95 would seem to be VERY fairly priced!]

N: A fragrant melding of minerals & flowers

P: Med body; Very RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt met by a crisp acidity that carries the process into & through the LONG, balanced, tangy/swt finish. Nicely done for now & through '21 in a very food compatible style. My EXC-; [This vendor's $11.95 is $3.54 < wine-searcher's lowest!]

  • 2018 Farnese Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Fantini

    Italy, Abruzzi, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo

Cf. the CellarTracker Article link [lower lft] to get specific info for this vintage, including acclaim.

N: CHERRIES with undertones of pyrazines, poss some minerals

P: Med, poss LM, body; RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt met by an astringent pucker which pretty much resolves by the LONG, tangy/swt finish to the very, VERY fine tannins. For now with food, but deserves another 6-12 mos, then drinking into, probably through, '23? My VG+/EXC-, trending towards the higher for QPR? [This vendor's $7.95 is $1 < wine-searcher's lowest!]

  • 2017 Château Kefraya Les Bretèches

    Lebanon, Bekaa Valley

N: Fairly fragrant, RIPE berries, earthiness, a touch of forest floor, with hints of pyrazines?

P: Med body; NICE, ALMOST swtish frt met by an astringent pucker which stays within hailing distance of the init frt as it only somewhat works itself out by the LONG finish with a DISTINCT swtness to the dusty tannins. NEEDS through '21, poss a tad longer, then drinking through '24? Surprisingly substantial for he price! My EXC- (90,91/100 using that metric). [This vendor's $8.95 is $2.50 < wine-searcher's next lowest!]

  • 2017 Bodegas Juan Gil Monastrell Jumilla

    Spain, Murcia, Jumilla

"Grapes used to produce this wine come from old vyds of chalky & stony soils that are poor in nutrients." Typically, "Maceration & fermentation in s/s tanks @ a controlled temp. After malolactic fermentation & aging in French oak (depending on the characteristics of the harvest), it remains in s/s tanks until it's bottled."

    N: RIPE berries with CHOC

P: MF, poss Med, body; RNDISH entry with NICE, almost swtish frt met by a bit of astringent pucker that pretty much irons itself out by the LONG, balanced finish with ult a pleasant swtness to the few, fairly unoffensive, dusty tannins. Approachable now, though it could benefit by cellaring through the end of '20, then drinking through '23. Nicely done in its style. My EXC-; 90 pts Suckling. My EXC-. [This vendor's $11.95 puts it @ the TOP of wine-searcher's large class!]
