Flight 2 (2 Notes)

  • 2010 Georg Breuer Rüdesheimer Berg Schloßberg Riesling 92 Points

    Germany, Rheingau

*** brief impression from tasting event, no detailed tasting note ***
Glass: Gabriel Standard and Sophienwald Bordeaux
Bottle opened at noon, double decanted. Drunk about 8-10h later.
Clear pale golden color. Dense, complex, mineral nose. Dry, acidity a bit unbalanced (sweet-sour) and unripe, very mineral, young. Long, mineral finish. Certainly not the best Schloßberg ever. Will it improve? I doubt due to the unbalanced acidity. Nevertheless, a very good wine. 91-92

    From Magnum, popped and poured.
Clear, pale golden color. Beautiful complex nose with lots of ripe fruit, mineral notes, herbs. Mosel dry (~ 8gr residual sugar), lots of extract, dense!, acidity perfectly integrated, long. One of my personal surprises! 92-93. This bottle would have lasted for at least another decade.

Clear, pale golden color. Ripe yellow fruit, candied pineapple in the nose.! Bone dry, perfect high and surprisingly ripe acidity. Almost never ending pressure and depth. Quite lean, never fat or bold. Ripe stone fruit, some smokiness, very precise and elegant. Young. Great potential! 95-96+ My WOTN

  • 2010 Wittmann Westhofener Morstein Riesling Großes Gewächs 91 Points

    Germany, Rheinhessen

*** brief impression from tasting event, no detailed tasting note ***
Glass: Gabriel Standard and Sophienwald Bordeaux
Bottle opened at noon, double decanted. Drunk about 8-10h later.
Clear, pale golden color. Weakest bottle of this flight, on a high level though. Bottle was bought at release and perfectly stored, but could not compete with the bottle I had 8 month ago. Maybe it simply needs more time to develop complexity? It was very young though… It was rather sweet and with less grip and tension as the others… We will see. Next bottle in 2+ years. 90-91

Glass: Gabriel Standard and Sophienwald Bordeaux

Clear, pale golden color. Beautiful round and soft nose. On the palate not as precise as Kellers Morstein, a bit smoother with less tension and pressure. But very elegant, deep and long. Way better than Wittman’s Morstein. What a beautiful surprise! My personal PQR winner of the night. 92-93

  • 2010 Schäfer-Fröhlich Bockenauer Felseneck Riesling Großes Gewächs 92 Points

    Germany, Nahe

*** brief impression from tasting event, no detailed tasting note ***
Glass: Gabriel Standard and Sophienwald Bordeaux
Bottle opened at noon, double decanted. Drunk about 8-10h later.
Clear, pale golden color. Lots of spontaneous fermentation notes on the palate. Good acidity and balance, a bit to sweet for my taste. Some ripe melon, still very young. I think, this wine is not yet at its peak and needs some more cellar age. 91-92+
