Bought at release. Perfectly stored. Drunk over multiple days. This is a good dry Riesling, don't get me wrong. But it does not fullfill the expectations I had for a wine from such a prestigious vineyard, the pricetag and the winery. The wine was a sweet/sour rather unbalanced something. It has some structure, pressure, solid mineral core, but lacks tension, excitement and balance. Medium+ finish. It will certainly stay on this level, but will most probably not improve. Completely different impression as my last note. Probably the first note was biased by the other wines in the tasting? 88-89, bad PQR

10 years after Riesling tasting - 2010 (Restaurant Holz und Feuer, Kirchheim, Germany): *** brief impression from tasting event, no detailed tasting note *** Glass: Gabriel Standard and Sophienwald Bordeaux Bottle opened at noon, double decanted. Drunk about 8-10h later. Clear pale golden color. Great pressure and tension. Surprisingly barely noticeable oak. Beautiful acidity, wonderful mineral core. A bit sweet, just from the extract? Very young, great length. Potential for at least 5+ years. 92-93

A little more rounded and finessed than the Kalkofen; layers of ripe fruit, minerality, herbal and spicy elements, but still a little severe on the back end without the residual sugar to balance the high acids.

(von Winning Kirchenstück Riesling Grosses Gewächs) ($152.00) From a parcel they bought from my friends Eugen Müller, and one which many believe to be hors classe in the Pfalz. This one’s almost astonishing, a wine both deep and brilliant, like a tall tree with deep roots; sensational cherry, blackberry and quetsch aromas; this crazy-ass wine is like a cross of Boxler’s Brand and a Corton-Charlie of Coche-Dury in its massively rich sweet-hay and keen minty faux-sweetness. Utterly original, crazily expressive.

Weingut Von Winning - "The Wines from Pfalz" (Scandic KNA Oslo): Flaxen colour. Very pure and a bit shy, yet complex aroma. Pineapple, mushrooms and detergent. Pure and very intense on the palate. Very high acidity. Great lenght. Very good potential.
