Tasted Monday, November 16, 2020 by chatters with 116 views
E had received some CB's to try from Daniel and offered to share with me...very very exciting.
yeah, lots to enjoy here but the Petit Cheval 2010 & Cheval Blanc 2009 were my favourites
I pulled the La Lagune out of my cellar, the Ruggabellus was rather nice...
A lot of enjoyment to try the Cheval Blanc stables wines again. Supper was pretty good as well...
2016 Le Petit Cheval Bordeaux Blanc
France, Bordeaux
Very green, nettle, gooseberry, muted oak, a little sulphur, with time a little lime, plenty of chalky minerality. In the mouth there is juicy acidity, chalky tannic grip on the mid palate, it's surprisingly, after the nose, sweetly fruited; greengages, ripe gooseberry, a little alcohol warmth intrudes on the finish. Travels long. The tannin is a bit much for the fruit at the moment, the alcohol warmth is also a bit of a concern for me.

2016 Cheval des Andes
Argentina, Mendoza, Lujan de Cuyo, Vistalba
Fresh plums, a little freshly tilled earth, chocolate, sweet spice, very slight riper herb notes, polished oak is present but controlled, a very slight meat note shows with time and the wine gets more savoury. In the mouth juicy acidity and alcohol warmth support the fresh plummy fruit with a lick of cream and a knob of butter, tannins are fine, talc textured and persistent. The alcohol lends an almost minty note to the finish but isn't intrusive. Okay.

2015 Château Quinault L'Enclos
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Dusty, black and red plums, some herbaceous underpin, a little red berry with a touch of sourness, savoury spice, an impression of austerity; especially after the Cheval des Andes. Medium plus acidity, wet plums, quite savoury, a little cream, persistent cats rasp tannins, alcohol warmth is present but non-intrusive on the finish as well as a touch of bitterness. Hmm

2010 Le Petit Cheval
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Ripe, rich, plums, sweet spice; cinnamon and cloves especially, polished oak, just beginning to show a little tertiary leathery notes as well as cocoa powder. with time it becomes more floral with red plums, strawberry and fresh herbs. Medium plus intensity acidity, tight tannins are persistent and chalky textured. there is a lick of alcohol warmth which seems to lend mint and liquorice. Wild plums, long, finishes quite spicy. Yum

2009 Château Cheval Blanc
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Dense, concentrated, closed in fact for me, with time and agitation a fair amount of dark plums, sweet spice, cream, vanilla, chocolate underpinned by red fruits, floral notes, pencil shavings, polished oak. Juicy, sweetly spiced, plummy fruit, a little cocoa powder, persistent silky tannins, still very primary but beautifully balanced and shows great promise. Yum.

2006 Château Cheval Blanc
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Funky, farty, meaty, savoury, leathery, earthy, spicy, perhaps slight oxidation, with time and plentiful agitation red and black plums, polished oak, a little raspberry compote note. Medium plus intensity acidity, chalky tannic grip closes down the palate, ripe plummy fruit, that raspberry compote underpin, liquorice, a little herbaceous note. Balanced. Long.

2005 Château Cheval Blanc
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Dark hued fruits go hand in hand with meaty, leathery notes, cigar box, sweet spices, pretty red fruits, slight floral notes. Medium plus intensity acidity, with a little sourness, medium plus intensity grainy, grippy tannins, wet plums, an almost ashy quality. the palate is far less impressive than the nose for me, it's a little austere.
