A wonderful evening at 67 Pall Mall - kindly hosted by Graeme from the Wine Pages forum
Vertical pairing with the 2001
Wow - a really seductive nose jumps out of the glass - sour cherry, leather and then a wonderful herbal / tea tree note and a perfumed finish - a really lovely nose
The palate delivers up dried cherry, ripe plum, tobacco. Still has some good acid and tannin grip but "à point" now.
Having left some in the glass for the rest of the meal it was a little faded by the end so if I had some i'd drink up though this has inspired me to be patient with my 06s and 09s.

Vertical pairing with the 1999
Another really generous nose. Classic sour cherry but also sun dried tomato, black tea, some leather
Really luscious - wave after wave of sour cherry, almost a cherry cough syrup aspect (in a good way!) with some medicinal and cedar notes. Very silky mouthfeel with the acidity and tannin present but settled and in balance.
The 1999 just pips this for me but both really delicious

Flight of Tuscan cabernet blends - Sassicaia 2011 vs Isole e Olena Cabernet Sauvignon Collezione Privata 2008
Well the Sass is very very shy (perhaps a challenging comparison to the sensory joys of the previous flight) - after time comes hints of blue plum, allspice and a sweet vanilla note - lovely but tauntingly shy
The palate is again a little bit backward with blue fruit, good acidity and some structured tannin. There is a sense of good wine making here and brooding potential but this is no way near ready.
I bought a pair of these and the other bottle will wait a long while yet.
90 points for now but see this ramping up

Flight of Tuscan cabernet blends - Sassicaia 2011 vs Isole e Olena Cabernet Sauvignon Collezione Privata 2008
This is more open for business vs the Sass and evolves nicely in the glass
Black currant, graphite, a hint of smoke and toast, black tea and a light vanilla sweetness. There is a high toned lifted note across the palate that makes this all quite elegant
Palate brings luscious crunchy blue fruit, then the oak flavours kick in. Some good acidity and some pretty fine tannins. All rather lovely!

1996 Bordeaux flight - Duhart Milon vs Mouton
Mature nose here of graphite, cassis, some iodine, cedar, mushroom - quite generous and attractive
Palate brings some passing blue fruit then more savoury mushroom notes - all has a delicious moreish intensity
Really fine wine and drinking very well. Key test for me - I got my phone out to see where I might buy some (answer - not easily!)

1996 Bordeaux flight - Duhart Milon vs Mouton
Nose here was wonderful with cassis, graphite, with lovely hints of pepper, spice and smoke. Everything came in waves giving a lovely persistency. Still has an overall lightness to it and feels more youthful than the Duhart. Really impressive nose
Palate is a little more fruit forward too than the Durhart but doesn't quite live up to some of the interest of the nose. There is some structure here and overall it feels more like potential to come rather than lacking anything now
I think this would be really interesting to taste again in a few years as there is something special here

A solo flight with a cheese selection
We had an interesting discussion on what qualifies for the "Goldkapsel" designation but agreed that whatever it is this wine made the cut!
Nose is Riesling goodness - for me the new tennis balls / new pencil case note that i rather like and then a delicious array of fruits - crisp green apple, tangerine, lemon, lime zest and also some white pepper - lovely
Palate is really intense - great balance of auslese sweetness and acidity - delivers the fruit from the nose in a really clean, crisp and intense finish. Lovely end to the evening
I'm such a sucker for good Riesling so it always scores well with me!

2002 Dom Pérignon Champagne 94 Points
France, Champagne
A great 2002 champagne flight - this vs Krug
The DP opens with a lovely nose of ripening apples, lime zest - with time in the glass is becomes a bit rounder with sweet meyer lemon, coconut, brioche. Having left some aside over the meal some more tertiary notes start to appear. Really lovely
Palate delivers on the nose - this is a rounder, more generous wine than the Krug and has an amazing persistence flavour.
Really lovely stuff and still feels very fresh

2002 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut 93 Points
France, Champagne
A great 2002 champagne flight - this vs DP
Nose is fairly evolved with a distinct truffly note but also honey and lemon curd - becomes crisper with time in the glass
Palate is initially quite rich with ripe apple, papaya and then a clear linear rich lemon streak runs across the palate making this a bit more angular than the rounder DP. A delicious champagne
Interestingly the Krug and the DP went in opposite directions with time in the glass - the Krug blowing off some of the funkier notes and becoming more crisp and the DP becoming more evolved
