PnP. My first English sparkling wine. After all the positive press I was a bit disappointed. On the nose interesting with dough, bread, peach, a bit flinty, yellow apple. But the palate not so interesting: mainly a big bite of a lime with a bit of a green apple. After two days the acidity is a bit better integrated, but on day 1 it was really unpleasant
[Tasted blind] I could not pinpoint it and was surprised to hear it was a oaked Verdejo from very old vines. 10 months on French barriques sur lie, which shows in its oily mouthfeel. On the nose: Spicy, marmelade, oak, citronella candle, unripe mango/pineapple. Slightly oxidative. On day 3 even apple sauce. On the palate: Pear, apple sauce, stone fruit. Slight bitterness in the long finish. High acidity
At 15 years just amazing, what a powerhouse and what a length and complexity! Deep golden in color sourced purely from the Loibenberg vineyard in Wachau. On the nose a bit of petrol, a bit medicinal, floral, tangerine, minerality, fennel, ripe pineapple. On the palate citrus, floral, ripe mango, apricot, ripe oranges. Extremely long finish (hence the name of course), it goes on for minutes. Full bodied with high acidity
Decanted for 1 hour. Very nice but probably too young or decanted too short (as it was much better on day 2). On the nose: cocos, vanilla, gunpowder, tomato leaf, meaty, tobacco. On day 2 much more fruit (and much better balanced): Plum, cherry, blackberry On the palate: Plum, cherry cocos Nicely engrained tannins. Long finish Next bottle in 3-5 years
The first bottle I’ve tried from the range of Jacky Blot wines I have in my cellar. Last bottle of the evening so notes not very elaborate. Barnyard, juicy, fruity iron, cranberry, red cherry, strawberry, a bit of oak. Long finish, medium+ acidity, nicely engrained tannins.
Young, but already enjoyable but benefits from a couple of years of age. Great PQR
