Introduction

Have spent a bit more time with this producer of late since we stayed with the Moueix (son and wife) when we were in Bordeaux. Very impressive wine and winery. This is on the gravel beds rather than the clay that Petrus has, but it works very well for these wines.

  • 1978 Château La Fleur-Pétrus

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

Bright and really pretty. It starts off a bit tight and maybe mustier but that seems to pass in the glass.

Probably my favorite of the tasting. There's a bit more acid here than in some of the other wines and it comes across as almost a bit light (or dare I say Burgundian?) in nature. Fresh and complex and different in style than what I'm used to but very enjoyable.

Closing

I always tend to prefer the wines with a bit more age. Thought that they showed well. The youngsters are all very promising!
