Introduction

My memories from a great wine dinner

Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 1975 M. Chapoutier Hermitage La Sizeranne 92 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

A bit more tired than eight years ago, but still kicking and notes are fairly similar. Dark fruited, with meaty and animal hints, some cigar box, wet forest floor and a bit of rusty nail. Dry and smooth on the palate, tannins are mild, acid is high, fruit is fading. It finishes dry and medium length. Not bad for a 47 year old bottle but it is time to drink up.

  • 1998 Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée 94 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

1998 was such a great vintage for CdP. This bottle is still as lovely as nine years ago. The nose is meaty, spicy, with hints garrigue. Silk on the palate, full bodied, great attack and high, balancing acidity. Dark fruited, cigar box, wet leather jacket. Fresh and spicy finish. Great winter red.

  • 1998 Château La Nerthe Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée des Cadettes 93 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Dark fruited with blackberry compote, kirsch, mushroom and garrigue. Dry, full bodied, medium tannins that are mostly rounded, medium plus acidity, well extracted, oak is present. It finishes dry, dusty and mid-length. A different, more modern approach to CdP compared to the Pegau but still quite enjoyable.
