Introduction

In general the formula here is that the host sets a theme and every participant brings a wine of the theme. The host puts a few extra on the table. We taste all wines blind, only knowing our own wine. We first taste a little bit in a random order. Then we decide together in which order the wines will be tasted again and after that revealed. In this group we do not use spittoons, so the number of bottles is limited. We don’t empty the bottles, but leave the leftovers for the host to taste again the next day, or take home the bottle we brought. In fact this easy setting where we taste the wines several times over 4 – 6 hours is the ultimate way to get a good impression of a wine.

Flight 1 (5 Notes)

  • 2008 Château Rouget 91 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

Beautiful bouquet with sweet ripe red and black fruits and a pleasant dose of oak. On the palate creamy and round red and black fruits, licorice, juicy acidity good tannin and bitterness. A bit rustic as well. Beautiful supple and round wine, early maturity now with enough airtime and definitely still offering great pleasure around 2018.

  • 2009 Clos René 87 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

Red fruits and green bell peppers in the bouquet. On the palate red fruits, a bit vegetal and edgy with green bell peppers. Slightly sticky tannin. Medium bodied. There is a light dose of pleasant oak. In itself a good wine, but for the vintage rather disappointing. Wait until 2017; it could show better by then.

  • 2007 Château La Lagune 87 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc

Cassis, green bell peppers and some smoky oak in the bouquet. Same on the palate. Creamy and round, but not an enormous concentration. Correct and well above average wine showing some luxury but not really great. Early maturity now and around 2016 possibly showing a bit better.

  • 2000 Château Lagrange (St. Julien) 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Beautiful bouquet with cassis and a good dose of medium toasted oak. On the palate black forest fruits like cassis, licorice, a good amount of sweetness and beautifully round tannin with still a lot of power. Although early maturity now, extremely youthful still for a 13 year old wine. Still a long future ahead. 92+
