Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2006 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Mouline

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie

89% Syrah 11% Viognier, up to 5000 bottles total production, 1ha. No decanting as suggested by Philippe Guigal, bottle uncorked at 10:00, tasted at 14:00

The wine shows high intensity in the nose, intoxicating fragrance, light bacon notes, floral notes, ripe to overripe red cherry fruit, a touch earthy and fill on spicy (sweet spices), decadent, a few bits of rubber notes. With time in the glass, the rubber clears up and more fruit notes emerge.

In the palate, the wine shows elegance, nice acidity, the fruit is more dried here, the tannins are silky, a few coffee notes, airy, medium to long finish

  • 2006 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Turque

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie

93% Syrah 7% Viognier, up to 4800 bottles total production, 0.8ha. No decanting as suggested by Philippe Guigal, bottle uncorked at 10:00, tasted at 14:00

The wine shows robust profile, the fruit is far daker, berry, cherry, the oak is more upfront but in balance with the fruit. A few charcoal notes but also licorice notes, roasted nuts next to red currants, black pepper in the back, chocolate, coffee notes, with more you get an earthier and spicier character

In the palate, the wine shows more evolution than expected, spice, earthy, the fruit is in the back, a touch warm, the tannins are tighter , mineral, medium to full body, oak more upfront and long finish

Just like the 2016 Turque tasted a few weeks before, it shows both fresh ripe version of fruit

  • 2006 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Landonne

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie

100% Syrah, 11200 bottles total production, limestone clay rich in iron oxide, 2.3ha No decanting as suggested by Philippe Guigal, bottle uncorked at 10:00, tasted at 14:00

The wine shows high intensity in the nose, very dense profile, dark fruit, dark spice, overall a very dark core (!!!), more graphite, a touch coffee, with more time in the glass you get some toffee next to prunes and plums.

In the palate, the wine is still tight, the oak is very much upfront, spice, coffee, tannins are tight, the fruit needs some time to emerge showing fresh juicy cherries and currants, full body and long finish

This is the most backward of all, still needs time
