An American theme but with a bunch of Burgundy drinkers, so all the wines ended up to be quite lovely and restrained instead of being big, punchy and oak-laden. Brought the Kutch and Pattes Loup as I thought that they would be confused for each other’s region and was proven right. Also brought the Ceritas for a friend as I carried this back from London and have been meaning to open it.
2017 Kutch Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 93 Points
USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
This was quite Burgundian with its restraint and being made in a leaner style, but thought that the fruit profile was ripe and a little exotic, albeit balanced by a huge amount of acidity. Still rather coiled, it felt like it only showed a glimpse of its potential with the amount of material that was packed underneath. Excellent.

2015 Domaine Pattes Loup Chablis Vent d'Ange 87 Points
France, Burgundy, Chablis
Normally a big fan of this producer but this was a little over the top. Too natural, nutty and exotic for my liking. The 2017 was much better and I think the 1er crus are a significant step up in warmer vintages.

2014 Sandhi Wines Chardonnay Sanford & Benedict Vineyard 91 Points
USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills
Very reductive and a hint of oak on the nose. This was full of minerality and probably the most Burgundian of all the whites. Reminded me of a Kumeu River Hunting Hill with the dominant sweet citrus fruit, but better. Didn’t manage to guess the producer in time but very much classic Sandhi.

2020 Arnot-Roberts Chardonnay Trout Gulch Vineyard 89 Points
USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains
Lean and green, slightly underripe fruit so wasn’t difficult to call the producer on this. Quite light and rather underpowered, although I have read that they put on weight with age so I will leave my 2016 for a while longer.

2021 Six Mile Creek Vineyard Riesling Reserve 89 Points
USA, New York, Finger Lakes
Clean and almost dry Riesling with the slightest hint of residual sugar. Floral aromas, pleasant and easy-drinking.

2019 Inglenook Blancaneaux 90 Points
USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford
Wow I thought this was a Chardonnay, didn't know that Rhone white blends could have so much acid and tension. Quite oaky on the nose, curiously there was no sign of the usual aromatics of Rhone whites. Slightly green fruit and melon that made some guess Sauvignon Blanc.
