  • 2020 La Vizcaína Bierzo La del Vivo Lomas de Valtuille

    2ha from 2 plots of Godello 30yo (in 50% 3yo Foudres and 50% 12yo 500lt oak), 5% Dona Blanca 100yo (in amphora), pH 3.0-3.1. Godello from 2020 vintage, Dona blanca from 2019 vintage
    The wine shows freshness, youthful profile, ripe fresh fruit, nice oak frame, walnut, almond, beautiful pastry notes next to salty notes.
    Great texture, nice acidity, citrus, fresh ripe fruit crunchy, a touch salty, mineral, medium body, a few herbal notes that add complexity, long finish.
    Very youthful, could age for 8-10 years.

    pH 2.8-2.9, 20yo oak, no sulfite before bottling
    The wine shows high intensity in the nose, oxidative notes, almond, citrus, more grapefruit notes, quince, smells a bit like Jerez, grapefruit peel, vegetative notes, dried herbs, olive notes.
    In the palate the wine shows the same profile as the nose, almonds, salty, high acidity, density, underripe citrus fruit, grapefruit peel, full body, long finish
    Very close to Jerez sherry but unfortified, very interesting

    95% argile soil, 75% whole cluster, 50% natural yeast, only wine and only vintage it was in temp controlled tank, 2 months minimum skin contact, 75% in 6-10yo oak, for 12 months, 100.000btl
    The wine shows high intensity in the nose, plums, fresh ripe prunes, black cherry, a few gamey notes, a few spicy notes.
    In the palate, the wine shows freshness, a few bitter notes, ripe plums again, mineral, medium acidity, whole cluster effect, medium body and finish

    The wine feels equally fresh, more fruit, dried berries, floral notes, cinnamon candy, Ribeira Sacra is lighter, black olive notes
    In the palate, the wine shows mineral steely notes, dried notes, dried currants, dried cherries, black olives, medium to high acidity, medium finish, bone dry

    100% whole cluster, 5-6 months under flor !!
    The wine shows beautiful profile, very fresh, black cherries, black olives again, some herbal notes, laurel
    In the palate the wine is criminally easy to drink, very fresh, filled with cherries, berries, thin spice layer, nice herbs in the back, a few gamey notes, tight tannins, mineral, medium to long finish. beautiful and so Raul Perez-like

    The wine shows freshness, floral notes, a few red cherry notes, plums, again some herbal / laurel notes, fine oak frame
    Palate with ripe red fruit, nice acidity, mineral, iron feeling, gamey notes, a touch more hot, elegant, medium body, medium to long finish, more linear

    mencia and 8-10% Bastardo, 13.50%
    3ha, Cooler site, noth facing, sandy and compact soil, low in iron, better in warm vintages like 2019, needs 2 years in the bottle because its more rustic
    The wine is ripe and fresh, black fruit, very elegant and light, easy going
    Elegant in the palate, nice acidity, mineral, rather hot, the fruit is there but gets overpowered by acidity, angular tannins, really tough as it is, long finish

    Tierras de leon, vino de mesa, pireto picudo,
    Very small grapes, pH 2.9, acidity 8.0, 6-7 months skin contact, whole bunch, very old barrel
    In the nose, the wine shows a very interesting character, very close to Port, says 13.50% but its closer to 15%, overripe to dried red fruit, cherries, currants, berries, raisin, coffee notes, chocolate notes, a few herbal notes that actually add freshness, fruit in alcohol, liquer-filled chocolate
    In the palate, the wine shows the same profile, ripe to overripe raisin, black cherries and currants, feels fresher than the nose, again Port-like but in texture now, medium acidity, medium body, medium tannins, crunchy texture, long finish
    What a weird wine! Would be fun to have it in winter

    Brought to drink at Oinoscent as a gift to Raul Perez

    harvested in 1946, bottled in 2011, unholy depth and complexity, mocca, coffee notes, sweet spices but above and beyond all, buckets of figs, 17% alcohol, walnut liquor, luscious body, never ending caramel flavoured finish.
    A perfect way to end this night

    The wine shows less intensity than Ultreia Godello 2020, broader too, grapefruit/orange peel, citrus with some floral notes.
    The palate is again broad, nice texture, more creamy, richer, ripe pear, green apple, medium acidity, a touch mineral, medium finish

    The wine shows light pale cherry red color.
    The wine shows fresh red cherry, berry notes, a few white notes, peach and nectarine next to pomegranate.
    Palate showing the same profile, cherry notes, showing body, nice texture, a few bitter notes, bitter bite, youthful, bitter freshness, pomegranate, medium acidity, medium to long finish, better with food.

    The wine shows purple color.
    In the nose the wine shows bright fruit notes, earthy, spicy, gamey a lot, needs time to clear up, cinnamon candy.
    In the palate, the wine shows again tight, spicy, gamey profile, medium tannin, medium acidity and mineral/irony finish

    The wine shows bright fruit, fresh, red cherry, berry, earthy, funky but more elegant than Gundinas tried before, iodine again, bretty, fresh palate, steely, high acidity, warmth, long finish.
