Deep ruby/garnet, narrow rim. Nose shows ripe dark fruit, chocolate, also some mint and green pepper. Palate is medium/full bodied, rpe dark fruit, touch of mint, soft even voluptuous tannins, green pepper, decent acidity possibly not completey integrated, good length finish. Very good indeed and still going strong.

  • 1985 Château Le Bon Pasteur 88 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

This is mainly red fruited, some lighter floral notes, herbal hints, becoming more earthy with time in glass. Medium bodied, fresh, red fruit, quite light, soft tannins and though drying out a touch on the medium/good length finish this is still in decent shape.

  • 1989 Château du Domaine de L'Eglise 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

This seemed to divide opinion but I liked it. Darker fruit on the nose - almost blackcurrant, notes of chocolate and spice, medium/full on the palate, nicely layered wioth soft tannins, lifts and expands into quite a long finish. Drinking well.

Flight 4 (3 Notes)

  • 1989 Domaine de Chevalier 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

7/12. Lovely composed, dark fruited nose, with lovely, classic smoky mineral notes, touch of tobacco. Medium boided, elegant and composed with cool, dark fruit, touch of gravel, tobacco, fine tannins, fresh acids and a very good length harmonious finish. Lovely

  • 1998 Domaine de Chevalier 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

Fruit is a touch riper than the 1989, more red-toned and glossy, there are notes of bloody meat on the edge. Medium/full bodied, again with a touch more richness and glossines than the 89, soft tannins, fresh acidity. decent length finish. Lacks the mineral complexity of the 89 but a really good showing.

  • 1989 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 94 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Lovely classic claret nose, red and dark fruit, lots of cigar-box notes, some cedar. Complex and attractive. Medium bodied on the palate, this has line and elegance but alsoa touch of richness - red and black berry fruit, cigar-box, spice, vibrant acidity carries a long, harmonious finish. Excellent, touching outstanding.

Flight 5 (3 Notes)

  • 1995 Château Montrose Flawed

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe

This had an odd, muted nose, all it was really showing was some chemical/chlorine notes. There were some vestiges of fruit on the palate, but the swimming pool was still there and it was short and stripped on the finish.
