Walkaround tasting so just short notes: The 1989 was made of 94% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc. The bouquet is still a bit creamy with round red berries. Same on the palate, juicy red berries, autumn forest, good acidity, creamy and round tannin, full bodied and a great length. In its maturity stage, but no hurry al all. This will probably be still great 10 years from now.

Subtle dried red fruit on the nose with some woody/spice notes. Not overly aromatic out of the gate but it is pleasant. Med body, med acid, med+ tannin. This is actually pretty damn good at the moment. It’s not a showy wine at all at this point but it’s really holding up well. The fruit is hanging on but I wouldn’t hold much longer. The tannin creeps up on the finish and will likely never fully resolve. Enjoy now and over the next 5+ years.

Bottle in great shape after all of these years. Long cork, surprisingly no ullge. Dark ruby color with pale edge. Cherry and almond nose. Two hour decanting for Thanksgiving meal. Soft fruit and tannin, cherry chocolate, dust, and leather. Great with braised turkey, root vegetables, potato/cauliflower/fennel gratin, roasted butternut squash, and cranberry sauce.

This was interesting. I struggled to get on with this at all, while fellow diners (with excellent palates) found a lot to recommend it. I worried this might be a sign of Covid, but the following flight just led me to believe that I don’t quite get the right bank…

Gareth's "best of the 80s and 90s" (Hawksmoor Guildhall): Pretty mature and muted, though still alive. Unassuming and pleasant, sweetish with cassis, smooth and felt as though it didn't have much more to give. I think others liked this more than I.
