Flight 1 (1 Note)

  • 2005 Domaine de la Vougeraie Bonnes Mares 96 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru

    Glass: Riedel Sommelier Burgundy
Popped and poured. Clear, medium garnet color. Lots of glycerine (tears). Clean, medium+ intense, youthful-developing nose. Ultra fine fruit (pure strawberry, raspberry), herbs, very elegant and balanced. Very complex, fine and elegant perfume!
Dry, high acidity, 13% abv, high, silky tannin. This wine was not loud and shouting: “I am a Grand Cru!” At the first sip it was like a fine easy drinking Pinot from Germany. Only when you focus and drink more, you will notice the fantastic elegance and balance, the precise and ultrafine fruit, that has nothing artificial and the extract sweetness. It also shows a wonderful tension and pressure on the palate. Very long, fine fruity finish with a nice touch of saltiness. This is a crowd pleaser and easy drinking on a world class level. No surprise, that we completely emptied the whole bottle in no time! 95-96

  • 2008 Bernhard Huber Hecklinger Schlossberg Spätburgunder Großes Gewächs 94 Points

    Germany, Baden

    Glass: Riedel Sommelier Burgundy
Popped and poured, drunk over two days. Clear, medium garnet color with tawny edges. Clean, medium+ intense, developing nose. Lots of fine fruit, herbs, spices, gets more ethereal with time and air. Complex and beautiful.
Dry, 13,5% abv, high, racy acidity, medium+ ripe tannin, medium body. After opening it was quite harsh and a bit rough, but it gained elegance and finesse every hour! Beautiful fine red fruit, spicy, some fine vanilla. Very juicy, beautiful tension, pressure and energy. On day two with a lovely elegance and balance. Long, fine and fruity finish. Drinks beautiful right now but will stay on this level at least for 5+ years. 94

Flight 3 (1 Note)

  • 2009 Karl H. Johner Bischoffinger Steinbuck Pinot Noir Cru de Bois 90 Points

    Germany, Baden

    Glass: Riedel Sommelier Burgundy
Screw cap, popped and poured, drunk over two days. Clear, medium ruby-garnet color. Clean, medium+ intense, developing nose. Lots of sweet fruit, herbs, spices, dense and nice.
Dry, medium+ acidity, high mellow tannin. 14% abv that made the wine quite hot.
It was certainly best right after opening! Beautiful fruit, dense, quite elegant, full bodied, not hot. With time and air it got a bit broader, hotter and less energetic. The double oak (2 x new oak) shined through, but not too much. Long finish. Very interesting wine, will stay on this level for quite some time, but will not improve. Do not decant, drink on day one. 90-91

Dry, 13% abv, juicy acidity. Medium+, a bit rough tannin. On day one fresh, good, easy drinking, probably a bit rustic and one dimensional. On days two and three it gained a bit more juiciness and length. Drink now or within the next years. 89-90

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis

    Glass: Riedel Sommelier Burgundy

Dry, 13% abv, high, juicy acidity, high, powerful tannin that seemed a bit rough at first, but mellowed significantly with time and air. On day one a bit closed and forbidding. Opened up on day two. Pure red fruit, fine oak, a bit “dark”. Good tension, nice texture, gained elegance and finesse on days two and three. Medium+ finish. 91-92 Let it rest for some more years or give it lots of time now.
