Flight 1 - Aperitif (3 Notes)

  • 2007 Legras & Haas Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Millésimé 89 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

(Disgorged in May 2015, 100% Chardonnay)
Maturing nose showing hazelnuts and citrus combined with some mint and a touch of rubber. Nice creaminess on the palate with yellow apples acidity and some fresh cut grass and mint on the balanced finish. Nice balanced taste right now on magnum, but still showing a tad bit too much rubber on the nose for my taste.

  • 2000 Taittinger Champagne Brut Cuvee Millenium 93 Points

    France, Champagne

(Disgorged in 1999, 100% Grand Cru with 50%/50% Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, 75% from 1996 and 25% from 1995 from the villages Avize, Oger, Le Mesnil, Ambonnay, Bouzy and Mailly)
Lovely golden yellow colour with a stream of fine bubbles. An explosion of maturing notes of butterscotch, cream and toasted brioche on the lovely nose. Still fresh on the palate with red apples and butterscotch at first and starting to show some dried citrus zest on the nice and balanced finish. This is still showing well with twenty years of post disgorgement has treated this cuvée very well and it has opened up in a pleasant way.

  • 2011 Deutz Champagne Blanc de Blancs 90 Points

    France, Champagne

(Disgorged in September 2017, 100% Chardonnay mainly from Le Mesnil sur Oger and Avize, dosage 6 gr/l)
Light yellow almost greenish colour with a stream of very fine bubbles. Youthful and fresh nose showing citrus fruit, baked bread and a touch of grass in a pleasant way. Lighter on the palate with some litchi and yellow apples before a nice touch of bitterness takes overon the finish. Very good presence today and only the thinner than normal palate reveals the lesser vintage it is made of. Should reward some further cellaring to open up with more mature notes.

Sweetness on the nose showing butterscotch, acacia honey and some flowers. Opens up with flint and hazelnuts in a delicious way. Palate is smooth with a lovely butterscotch note on the mid before a lovely lime citrus acidic sweetness on the nice and lengthy finish. Typical Comtes sweetness on the finish enhanced by the vintage character

Light yellow colour with a maturing nose showing pine, butterscotch, butter and some freshly cut grass. • 2002 Delamotte Champagne Blanc de Blancs Millésimé 91 Points

    France, Champagne

    (Disgorged in 2010, 100% Chardonnay)
Light yellow colour with a smooth maturing nose showing butter, lemon and some spiciness in a very pleasant way. Red apples acidity and a touch of butterscotch on the palate and it opens up with lots of butter on the finish. This is not as good as it was showing last year and feels like it isn’t fully harmonious right now. But with some time in the glass as it gets warmer it reveals that there is something to wait for.

  • 2002 R. & L. Legras Champagne Grand Cru Présidence Vieilles Vignes 92 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

(Disgorged in October 2011, 100% Grand Cru Chardonnay from Chouilly)
Mature nose showing cream, butter and some acacia honey on top of some heavier notes. Smooth lemon acidity combined with yellow apples and a lemon zest bitterness on the lengthy finish. This is drinking very nicely right now, but should keep for many years to come. This was one of the better bottles I've had from this cuvée in this vintage.

Flight 3 - Huvudrätt (4 Notes)

  • 2006 Bodega Piedra Negra (François Lurton) Cabernet Sauvignon Gran Lurton 89 Points

    Argentina, Mendoza, Valle de Uco

    (Decanted for half an hour)
Deep red colour with a brick red hue. Fruity sweetness on the nose combined with liquorice and a touch of mocha in a pleasant way. Still showing some austere tannins on the palate and with fruit that is drying up. A bit sweeter fruit on the finish again, but in a balanced and pleasant way. This is still drinking very nicely and should reward some more cellaring as well.

  • 2006 Roc de Cambes 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Côtes de Bourg

    (Decanted for half an hour)
Deep red colour with a youthful nose showing herbs, mushrooms, leather, youthful oak and mocha. Youthfully austere tannins on the palate with fresh fruitiness and a rounder mid before showing some fresh minty notes on the warm and lengthy finish. This is showing very well already, but should reward another decade of cellaring to move into more tertiary notes.

    (Decanted for half an hour)
Red colour with a maturing nose showing violet, mint, white pepper, perfume and some herbal notes in a very pleasant way. Warmth on the palate with austere tannins and a liquorice and herbal note on the finish. This is a very nice and pleasant cuvée that should reward further cellaring.

  • 2006 Masi Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Campolongo di Torbe 93 Points

Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella Classico

    (Decanted for half an hour)
Deep red colour with a youthful nose showing butterscotch, some oak and warm alcoholic notes that need more time to integrate. Very austere tannins on the palate with dried herbs, raisins and some liquorice and with a very alcohol warm and lengthy finish. This is still very youthful and is still not showing the maturity I long for in a good Amarone and needs at least another decade to reveal its more mature notes.
