Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2016 Gros Frère et Sœur Richebourg 96 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru

Fort Lee Dinner with WJ Lee; This wine was pure class and truly all that one desires in a fine Burgundian wine. Extremely classy / pure and polished. Maybe the finest Richebourg of the Gros family, though it has been some time since I have had Anne's expression. The wine of the evening for me despite its youth.

  • 2010 Sylvain Cathiard Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Aux Thorey 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru

Fort Lee Dinner with WJ Lee; A very fine expression of Nuits St. George although perhaps more so an example of Cathaird. Old guard pre-Sebastian at its finest. These wines need age for the oak to resolve and drink pleasantly and this rather humble premier cru was a fine example Head to head with much finer terroirs this evening. Stunning.

  • 2013 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Cras 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

Fort Lee Dinner with WJ Lee; Less backwards and purple fruited than I was expecting for a 13 Roumier. Likely the vintage speaking. Not in a bad spot, but still rather tightly knit at this point in its evolution for my taste. Would like a bit more chambolle levity; this will likely benefit from a few more years in the bottle!

Flight 2 (4 Notes)

  • 1995 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Clos de la Roche 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru

Fort Lee Dinner with WJ Lee; Some funk and VA upon opening that muted aromatics. Blew off with time in bottle revealing a rather fine, ethereal wine. More more elegant and lifted than one might expect. By no means was the wine on its last legs, but may be worth opening if holding. Lovely wine and one of the highlights of the evening.

  • 2014 Domaine Dujac Clos de la Roche 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru

Fort Lee Dinner with WJ Lee; This wine was quintessentially Dujac, but also communicative of terroir. A really lovely 14 that was action packed aromatically and on the nose. Firmly whole cluster and rather bombastic in character with acidity to match. Excellent wine.

  • 2006 Dominique Laurent Clos de la Roche 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru

Fort Lee Dinner with WJ Lee; Ever-present Laurent oak, but still a fine example of Clos de la Roche and a lovely wine. Perfumed yet masculine, these wines should really not be touched for many years....

  • 1995 Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche Vieilles Vignes 85 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru

Fort Lee Dinner with WJ Lee: Notes of VA upon opening. Perfume was rustic as was the palate. Some structure here but the wine never really came together. Typically Ponsot and more so Ponsot than Burgundian. For me, this represented a rather unexciting wine and one of the underperformers of the lineup.
