2019 Varney Wines Grenache
Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale
Strawberry and raspberry fruit tends to compote, slight baked notes, soft talc textured tannins provide interest on the mid palate, simple, nice. manages it's alcohol well, rather charming.

2008 Marqués de Riscal Rioja Reserva
Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alavesa, Rioja
Cream, vanilla, a little baked berries, sweet and woody spice. On the palate an immediate cardamom pod note, woody tannins, red fruits are less baked on the palate with a lick of vanilla pod on the finish. Nice.

2021 Romuald Valot Vin de France Ni Cru Ni Cuit
France, Vin de France
On the nose it shows fruit tea, quite sour red fruits, farmyard, on the palate it has jubey red fruits prove juicy tending to medium plus intensity acidity but just the right side of sour, that Bretty note is on the palate as well with a smidge of wood glue. Meh.

2020 Arianna Occhipinti SP68 Rosso
Italy, Sicily, Terre Siciliane
Savoury, meaty, dark berried fruit, rocky minerality but a sense of fresh red fruit in support - Jeremy and I both get excited by the inclusion of Frappato. Opens with time to show a touch of complex lending Brett. In the mouth it has medium plus intensity acidity, jubey black berries, chalky minerality, talc textured tannins are drying, persist long with a little fruit tea on the finish. Lovely.

2017 d'Arenberg Cabernet Sauvignon The Coppermine Road
Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale
Ripe blackcurrant, minty herbaceous notes, sweet spice, cedar, touch of alcohol prickle on the nose. Medium plus intensity acidity, splash of ripe black fruit, chewy grape and wood tannins are drying but the fruit persists, quite concentrated. A sharp contrast to the SP68 - clean, well made, perhaps a little dull? but nothing wrong here. I'm guessing about 3 decades under screwcap will lend some complexity if it doesn't dry out.
