  • 2016 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault 1er Cru Charmes 96 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

Having recently tried the Clos de la Barre 2017 ( Papies 2017) this was not to be missed and indeed delivered in so many levels. Even though the temperature in the room was a bit too high still the wine performed to the next level. Elegant and polished mineral, good acidity albeit we were expecting a bit more focus. Has an effortless and elegant richness to it, super well assimilated oak just lingering on the background and just a feel to fall in love with. This is the proper one. 96 and with a bit more focus this would have been 100.

  • 2019 Lucien Le Moine Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru

Frankly we approached this with caution expecting big oak, smoky and tropical and to be a bit overdone. Alas the opposite this was a superb wine across and albeit the soft kiss of oak with a smoky edge was there in the background it complemented the wine. Soft waxy texture but overall bright and energetic and just so elegant wine. A bit obvious at times indeed especially comparing it with the Lafon Charmes 2016 we had before ( Papies 96) but hey everyone with its style. Impressive still and a solid 94

  • 2012 Giuseppe Quintarelli Valpolicella Classico Superiore 92 Points

Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Valpolicella Classico Superiore

An Italian on a Parisian warm evening ( October is the new June here in Paris), decanted and served.
Frankly it was too warm (who would have thought) for this wine but still show through like always. Just maybe the end result was not the rating it deserved vs our palate but still as always an exceptional wine. Felt like a 92 and 92 it is.

  • 2018 Grande Chartreuse Cuvée des Meilleurs Ouvriers de France

    France

By the glass to finish a very pretty dinner at Frenchie bas a Vins.
The sommelier mentioned this being some sort of blend of Green & Yellow Chartreuse, almost a in-between color . to Us was a very polished yellow level. Punchy, herby, spice and very much a textbook offering but also very polished and frankly dangerously welcoming. Very pretty.
