First of 12… Opened at 3:00 light yellow color, tight reticent nose, intense minerality and acidity added great tension. Clearly needed air so into a decanter served at 8:00. By dinner this opened up to show layers of bright white fruits with hints of citrus and a fuller rounder mid palate and lingering finish. This is an elegant baby with a very promising future

October is the new Parisian June (Frenchie Bar à Vins , Paris): Having recently tried the Clos de la Barre 2017 ( Papies 2017) this was not to be missed and indeed delivered in so many levels. Even though the temperature in the room was a bit too high still the wine performed to the next level. Elegant and polished mineral, good acidity albeit we were expecting a bit more focus. Has an effortless and elegant richness to it, super well assimilated oak just lingering on the background and just a feel to fall in love with. This is the proper one. 96 and with a bit more focus this would have been 100.

Comtes Lafon Meursault Les Charmes 2016. Åpen og bjudar på straight out of the gates. Selvfølgelig ung, men ingen kanter å spore. Finishen sitter som et skudd. Lang og presis med en nydelig mineralitet. 94-95p

KYD #2.2 (Valby Brasserie): Youthful and elegant wine with lots of intensity. Lovely elegant pineapple and starfruit with a touch of oak. The minerality lingers nicely in the aftertaste and overall, a stunning wine!

In a tricky vintage, this one really blew my mind (even though I of cause had high expectations for a Lafon). Very beautiful, but give it time to breath in a decanter.
After decanting for a couple of hours, powerful aromas exploded out of the glass in the most beautiful Meursault-way. Yellow apple, lemon marmelade, ripe peach, hints of petrol, mild banana, fresh butter, warm scone, hazelnuts, caramel and milk chocolate, new rubber boots, sage, vanilla and honey. Quite chalky too with some smoky mineral notes and lots of white flowers. It’s full-bodied and concentrated (not overly fat - still with a lean style) with medium+ acidity and a green dry touch (almost like micro tannins). Super mineral, yet quite milky with notes of yellow apple, poached pear, lemon peel, sweet/sour lemon juice, candied ginger, licorice root, Greek yoghurt with honey, vanilla cream and a chalky and salty finish.

So much smoky mineral and flint to the nose. Explosive white peach fruit in the mouth. It is intense and dense and still relatively compact. There's some aniseed spice and a finish that is laden with chalky dry extract. Length is imposing. A brilliant wine that is still in need of cellaring for it to fully unfurl.

Flott nese. Mineralsk og noe eiket, med frukten foreløpig litt i bakgrunn. Likevel er det liten tvil om at frukten har ganske høy modning. Gule epler og noe tropisk. Intens i anslaget. Heftig kons. Moden frukt med god syrefrisk nerve.

Everything that I expect from a Meursault-Charmes 2016. Generous and refined, intense and precise, exemplary terroir expression, juicy and energetic, mealy richness, ripe citrus and hazelnut, succulent stone fruit and smoky oak, harmonious and energetic, long and complete finish. For drinking in the first decade of its life.

This started out quite reduced, with cabbage-like notes on the nose. Not very appealing. Fortunately, it blew off throughout the evening, and the wine came into it's own. Nevertheless, I was ultimately somewhat disappointed, as the wine never revealed the flinty, gunpowdery, smoky nose I have so often found in Lafon's whites. It had his signature acidity and balance though, and was as such a great wine. I had just hoped for more

Lafon's 2016 Meursault Charmes is elegant and light on its feet, pretty and soft with notes of white peach, lime blossom, oatmeal, and subtle smokey reduction. Lithe frame, bright acidity. I would enjoy these in the near to midterm, now through 2030 or so.

We drank five 2016 white burgundies, single blind, with the Tucson tasting group. The Lafon Charmes came in a very close third. I've had this once before, and it is a charmer.

MEA Celebration at St. Genevieve (St. Genevieve): Double decanted prior to dinner. This started closed and understated. After about 20 minutes in the glass it was showing very well, but got better and better as the night wore on. Awesome, beguiling nose of fresh fruit and mineral with intriguing notes of licorice, herbs, and spice (and more) mixed in. Fresh and elegant. Perfect, effortless weight on the palate. Expansive and intense flavors despite the seeming weightlessness. Perfectly balanced. Long, satisfying finish. This has all you would want and expect from Lafon.

St. Genevieve Minneapolis: A delicious version of Lafon's Charmes. The 2016 was perfectly in balance tonight, utterly delightful, and charmed us all. Decanted for two hours.

This shared a compelling and varied flight with; a massive Coche village Meursault , a flamboyant 2016 PYCM CC and a chiseled minerally 2016 Jacques Carillon Perrieres. Like many Lafon's this was the most ethereal, weightless, elegant wine in the flight but still with an expansive array of citrus, pear, spice, herb and outstanding minerality. Ballerina like balance and precision of movement. Exceeding fine and lustrous. Fine art in a btl. Loved it and especially such a fun contrast and counter balance to the Coche and the PYCM. Thanks Brad!

Well-integrated reduction, powerful yet lithe, with a great mineral backbone. Moderate acidity and the lighter body suggest the 2016 Charmes will drink well over the next ten years.

La Paulée de New York Grand Tasting (Pier Sixty - New York NY): Tasting, brief note. Rich and enchanting on both nose and palate. Lots of power with good density, while also elegant and weightless. Moderate acidity. Probably better to enjoy younger, 2021-2028, than celllaring long-term.

La Paulée 2019 Grand Tasting of 2016 Burgundy (Pier 60, New York): A huge step up from Clos de la Barre. Deep, ripe fruit, but here the oak is not nearly as dominant. Lovely gravelly underpinning, and a lactic creaminess. Excellent although this again does not have the strong acidity that will keep it fresh for ages.
