I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to pop to a trade tasting for the Pure Wine Co

  • 2021 Urlar Sauvignon Blanc

    New Zealand, North Island, Wairarapa, Gladstone

    Passion fruit over gooseberry, touch of herbaceous underpin. Juicy, I'm guessing a touch of residual sugar, slight white pepper joins the palate fruit . Simple. Hmm.

  • 2021 Pascal Bouchard Petit Chablis

    France, Burgundy, Chablis, Petit Chablis

    Citrus, lemon, tiny touch of apricot, simple nose. Juicy tends to medium plus intensity acidity, lemon joined by slight lime, linear, simple <shrugs>

  • 2020 Pascal Bouchard Chablis Le Classique

    France, Burgundy, Chablis

    A little more concentrated and riper than the Petit Chablis, lemon joined by stone fruit, very slight butter, sweet spice. Juicy, a little leesy, buttered lemons. Better than the Petit Chablis but nothing too flash.

  • 2023 Kaesler Sémillon Old Vine

    Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

    Medium minus intensity aromas of apple, tiny touch of fresh grass, slightly nutty and leesy notes. Juicy tending to medium plus intensity avidity, softly textured burr, a little dilute, touch of green apple with lime underpin. Meh.

  • 2021 Pepper Tree Pinot Gris

    Australia, South Australia, Limestone Coast, Wrattonbully

    Slight pear, melon, touch of lozenge and a slightly hard note. Tangy, juicy, simple, slightly dilute. Meh

  • 2022 Pepper Tree Chardonnay Four Clones

    Australia, New South Wales, Central Ranges, Orange

    Slightly reductive, struck match, stone over citrus fruit, sweet spice, slightly leesy and buttery notes in support. Juicy, fresh, slight citrus, balanced but quite subdued, long, simple. Hmm.

  • 2021 Warramate Marsanne Roussanne

    Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley

    A little beeswax, touch of stone fruit, almost a little cereal note. Juicy, fleshy, stone fruit, textured and broad but not as glycerol fat as I had expected - there is a pleasing freshness. Nice.

  • 2021 Yarra Yering Chardonnay

    Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley

    Rich, concentrated stone fruit, a little toast, bacon fat, sweet spice. Juicy, concentrated but fleshy, dense rich stone fruit is generous, woody note to the tannic burr, a little citrus joins on the finish, complex, balanced in a bold way. Very good.

  • 2021 Urlar Pinot Noir

    New Zealand, North Island, Wairarapa, Gladstone

    Cherry, earth, raspberry, touch of sweet spice, clean and pure. Juicy, fleshy, tannic grip is talc textured and offers a platter for the fruit to sit on, slightly bitterness on the finish but good.

  • 2021 Terra Sancta Pinot Noir Mysterious Diggings

    New Zealand, South Island, Otago, Bannockburn

    Red hued fruit, earthy notes, touch of wild ferment. Juicy, fleshy, slightly muted fruit, persistent talc textured tannins, simple, a little bland.

  • 2022 Terra Sancta Pinot Noir Estate

    New Zealand, South Island, Otago, Bannockburn

    Perhaps a little whole bunch here, earthy, clay notes over muted dark fruits. Juicy, slightly sour muted fruit, softly tannic burr, a little dilute. Meh.

    Ooh, 777 clone! Black cherry compote, a sense of concentration. Tannins are super persistent, fresh black cherry fruit in the mouth as well. Compelling.

  • 2018 Terra Sancta Pinot Noir Slapjack block

    New Zealand, South Island, Otago, Bannockburn

    Slightly muted cherry, raspberry, strawberry; a cornucopia of fruits, integrated oak, slightly sweet spice. Juicy, fleshy, powdery tannins persist, fruit struggles. Little , touch of bitterness, cream on the finish, slight non intrusive alcohol warmth. Hmm.

  • 2022 Pepper Tree Pinot Noir Limited Release Single Vineyard

    Australia, New South Wales, Central Ranges, Orange

    Funky, slightly meaty, gamey, spice black fruits, sweet spice, plenty of grip has an oaky underpin (especially after the Kiwi Pinots) black fruits, alcohol warmth intrudes on the finish. Meh.

  • 2022 Yarra Yering Dry Red N°3

    Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley

    Medium minus intensity aromas show quite austere; mute black fruits, slight herbaceous underpin, red berry and baked earth with time and plentiful agitation. Juicy, slightly sour red and black fruits; it's a touch hard and unwieldy, plenty of textured drying grip. Not for me.

  • 2021 Warramate Shiraz

    Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley

    Blackberry, a little pepper from alcohol prickle, charcuterie, savoury, plenty of spice. Just the right side of sour wild black fruits, tiny peppery underpin, persistent, softly textured tannic grip carries the fruit. Okay.

  • 2021 Warramate Cabernet Merlot Malbec

    Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley

    Leafy, sapid notes over blackcurrant, slight plums, red berry and a little ripe cranberry, cedar, biscuit, tomato leaf and alcohol prickle - lots going on. In the mouth it's sour, red hued fruit, tannic grip is coarse, flour textured, medium plus length. An interesting and complex nose is let down by the palate. Meh.

    Medium minus intensity aromas of berries; strawberries especially, sweet spice, vey slight alcohol prickle but otherwise clean and simple nose. Juicy, a little anonymous red fruit, floury textured, simple and a little flat. Meh.

    Young smelling, red over black fruits, a little meaty note here as well. Juicy, dense, red and black fruits, fleshy chewy tannins are fruit saturated, textured, long, slightly hard but still good.

  • 2021 Kaesler Shiraz The Bogan

    Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

    Meaty, slightly reductive, alcohol prickle lends a peppery note, blackberry, slightly plum. Juicy, dense, concentrated black fruits, a little creamy, plenty of textured burr proves drying, those fruits persists assisted by the controlled alcohol. Big, long, nice.

  • 2017 Kaesler Shiraz Alte Reben

    Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

    Slightly jammy blackberry fruit, polished oak; vanilla, caramel, rich and dense smelling, Port alcohol levels lend a peppery prickle, dense and concentrated black hued fruits polished oak but there is, almost, a sense of anonymity here. Tight but powdery tannins persists long as does the black fruit, Balanced, Good but not for me.

    Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale

    Clean, red berry driven GSM, blue and blackberry fruit in support, slight spice. Juicy, a little savoury underpin to the red over blue berry fruit, softly textured burr persists. Simple nice.

    Rich, concentrated dark fruits, touch of Christmas cake, sweet spice. Juicy, concentrated, plenty of woody tannins, blue and black fruits, sweet spice. Alcohol warmth on the finish. Woof.
